Summary: These are an excellent pair of bins for the money. I had spent quite some time looking at reviews of various waterproof 10x42 models and was intending to buy used from ebay. I came across a YouTube review which is worth a look. I am very pleased with these and they work very well over distance and close observation. They also are great in low light/dusk conditions. A good weight and quality workmanship which you would expect on bins over twice the price.
... deciding which binoculars to buy and as these offered good spec. at a fair price

Summary: I have spent ages deciding which binoculars to buy and as these offered good spec. at a fair price, I finally ordered the Barr & Stroud 10 x 42. I am very pleased with them as they are not too large, offer great optics and a really nice carry case, Just the job.
Summary: Like many others I read quite a few reviews on various binoculars but decided to go for these as I know the company name from their presence in Glasgow and friends who worked for them many years ago. So based on the feedback and my own gut feeling, I was delighted to receive the binoculars which were everything I wanted.
Summary: First pair I have ever bought. Wasn`t sure what the magnifying would produce. Glad I bought these as they are good at picking up detail of birds in trees 50 yards away. The magnifying control is very easy and quick. They also look a decent quality. For a novice they are very good. The only reason I knocked a star off was because of my overall and probably false expectation of seeing ants at 100 yards.
Summary: I have given 5 stars because for the price and quality, well, it would be hard to improve on. Very solid build and most importantly the image was crystal clear - perfect for birding. Found them good in low light conditions too. Incidentally, I am also interested in astronomy and as Jupiter is in a good position 2 moons were easily spotted along side the planet - even hand held.Probably teaching to the converted, but do take time to adjust the binocular eye pieces to match...
Summary: I purchased these binos as I had previous experience with B&S equipment and they came at a very competitive price. Compact, powerful and very clear, I have been able to identify difficult objects at my work from much greater distances than previously. As I work on a military firing range, you can see that this is a very important asset for safety reasons! I can recommend these with no reservations at all.
Summary: Just to put the record straight these binoculars by Barr and Stroud are in no way connected to the British company that made fine optical equipment for the Royal Navy during two world wars. There is no UK factory that some would like to believe but these optics are made in China for a UK company who purchased the brand name around 2008.
