Summary: This is a fine example of spoiling the ship for a Ha'p'oth of tar. There are no caps for the lens, can live with that, no strap to hang them round one's neck, but most annoying, the case is really too small, the binoculars need to be forced in and cannot be extracted in a hurry. Further the flap with a Velcro fixing does not completely close over the top and front of the case, looking unsightly, and no doubt if out in the rain, would allow the water in.
Summary: I bought these after hearing good reviews from my brother who had previously bought a pair. Unfortunately for me the focus doesn't seem to work when I focus on to an object. I'd purchased these about a month before I went on a safari and so by the time I realised they were faulty I was unable to return. If you purchase I recommend you try them out as soon as you get them!
Excellent built and finish. Good optics. Quality Control Issues?

Summary: ADDENDUM - Quality or design issues? After my initial test, I noticed again some recurring focusing issues leading to dual imaging. I noticed lack of sharpness and objects coming to focus twice. In these conditions I could not calibrate the dioptric at all. However by gently sending forth and back to the full extent the dioptric wheel, the inter-pupillary regulations and the focusing gears (all three!
Summary: These binoculars were perfect for our purpose - safari in South Africa and were well worth the money. As mentioned by a previous reviewer the case is a very tight fit but this should not affect your decision to buy them. Also a very fast delivery. Overall very happy.
Barr and Stroud Sahara 10x25 FMC Waterproof Compact Binocular
21 September 2011
Summary: Great binoculars. Well made with good, clear image. However the eye relief cups are a little unusual in the way the click into the different height settings - it feels like this mechanism is not very sturdy and may fail. There is a 10 year warranty though.
Summary: Delivered on time and basically provides what it promises: good vision/optics,easy and quick adjustment for focus for any given range of view, acceptably tight individual eye adjustment ring so position not lost between periods of use, light but sturdy construction, compact / pocket sized. The opening eye 'extensions' are a little difficult to get used to initially being slightly slack when extended, presumably for comfort given that they replace the normal rubber ones.
