  • Summary: 35" Scale bolt-on Alder body with quilt maple top (mine is caramel brown finish - amber like) Maple neck, rosewood board, yamaha active soapbars x2 yamaha 3band EQ w/pickup blend knob Brass bridge yamaha tuners came with allen keys and a very small "jack" lead (more like a patch lead if ask me) action was pretty good out the box, may tinker with it but its very playable.
  • Pros: Tone, versatility, neck nice tight B
  • Cons: neck may be too wide for those with smaller hands, Discontinued, pick up height may need lowering for agressive players

  • Summary: I bought this bass as my first fiver, and also my first "serious" bass. I had only played four-stringers and had gone the budget route until then (a Yamaha RBX P-bass and an MIM Jazz that were both stolen, and a Yamaha BB J-bass and another MIM Jazz to replace them). I therefore was looking for a great value and a bass that felt as comfortable to hold and play as a four-stringer.
  • Pros: Aesthetics, tone, B-string, ease of tone-shaping, price
  • Cons: Noisy electronics, neck joint

  • Summary: Firstly, I bought this bass primarily on its playability over its tone. I wasn't a 5 string fan but I wanted one to get used to one. I had the choice to buy a bass over double the price of this one, but I knew this was the one for me (TRB1005J). It felt really comfortable (playing sitting down and standing) and played better than most of the more expensive ones.
  • Pros: Playabilty is second to none in its price range, solid build, nice aesthetics
  • Cons: flimsy saddles on stock bridge, harsh preamp that chews 9v batteries
