Yamaha....amazing as usual

Dan the Yamaha man, Yamaha
10 February 2014
  • Summary: Yamaha makes high-quality instruments, no matter what the model number is. Don't judge the 170 on its amazing (maybe under-priced) price tag. This is a great bass for any player. For the more seasoned players you can spend some more money and upgrade the pickups and pots (DiMario, Seymour Duncan,...

Great Bass for the Price

gtrpkr, Yamaha
6 April 2013
  • Summary: I was in the market for a reasonably priced bass to replace an old Fender Precision copy that I've had for over 20 years. I only play bass for recording in my home studio - I'm a guitar player.
  • Pros: Good Feel, Good Tone

RBX170 Yamaha Bass

jaxN01, Yamaha
11 March 2013
  • Summary: This is the second bass I have purchased and am very pleased. I bought the old violin sunburst and it is beautiful. The action is smooth and the tone is fantastic. I've talked with two other musicians since and they told me it was a great bass, especially for the money.
  • Pros: Fun To Play, Good Feel, Good Pick Up, Good Tone, Solid Electronics

Not impressed

Jason-28uvO, music123

  • Summary: I realize my comments will be unpopular here but I find this guitar very unimpressive. It feels cheap, the tuners are junk and the build quality is so-so. Fretwork is terrible on every one I've ever touched and you better file the fret ends. Tone is bearable and the guitars only saving grace.

User Review

soong, TalkBass.com
11 June 2008
  • Summary: I bought this bass back in 03 and it was great. Still have one. The one i first got was setup so bad i returned though, it had really bad action and fret buzz. Exchanged for a new one and havent looked back since. Still doing me really well. Factory pickups are rusting now, thats my only complaint.
  • Pros: 24 Frets, 2 style J/P style Pickups, Great versatility in sound
  • Cons: Not good for slap/pop, Somewhat weak sound.
