Summary: really really a good case. campact, boot without problem, sleek, support E5 cpu and gtx 780 with ease. So good, that i can cry. it is a pain to install all components, but it totally worth it!!! Love it!!!
Summary: Believe it or not I am using this machine with 32 GB of RAM as a cheap way to provision virtual machines that I use for development, builds, QA, product configuration and installation testing. These are all low-CPU demand, non-production virtual machines.
Summary: I have been using the Shuttle computers as servers in a Linux cluster for many years. I have bought/built at least a dozen of them with very positive experience. However I had some trouble with this one, SX79R5 with an Intel Core i7-3930K Hexa-Core Processor.
Summary: Shuttle products are normally great, but this bare-bones platform is one to stay away from if you want to run linux.
Pros: it is small
Cons: This machine is used as a linux workstation, bios has been updated, etc. The machine (successfully) reboots only 50% of the time and has to be powercycled more often that you'd expect for a $500 bare-bones machine. Stock Fan is also really loud - I had to buy a replacement "quiet fan" from anothe...
Summary: Perfect system for people who NEVER EVER UPDATE THEIR BIOS
Pros: Nice and Small, low noise, Clean assembly and wiring
Cons: Shuttle is UNABLE to provide a reliable bios update method, their last bios update state that "3.Fix update BIOS will crash down when use winflash tool'' Guess what, it crashed during the update using a DOS USB BOOT DISK say ok on all step but at the end say error at 150% THIS IS MY SECOND FAILLE...
Pros: Very powerful for the size, plenty of USB 2.0 and 3.0 port, ventilation seem to be good, casted heat sink bracket give a nice finish There's plenty of room for such a small box, I installed a GFX dual slot card in it, a card reader, a 2TB HD and an MSATA SSD
Cons: The usb 3.0 driver are not ready yet for windows 8, the usb phone charging driver isn't availlable for windows 8 either, had to use an ASUS driver to get the usb 3.0 port working in windows, this is a matter of time probably but still not acceptable for a 500$ barebone... Be carefull with the bio...
Summary: Found it very easy to install components. At first it would not POST. I submitted a case with Shuttle the day after Thanksgiving and received a response on the following Tuesday. This was great response considering it was over a holiday and weekend. Shuttle offered to RMA and replace the box.
Summary: Intel 3930, Revo 3x2 hard drive, 7750 Radeon, blu ray, 2x4TB hard drives... Setup Windows 7 pro 64. Having a heck of a time trying to get the usb 3 ports working properly. They will work for a bit and then crash the system. I contacted the seller and they suggested updating the drivers & bios.
