Peter J., Newegg
22 September 2009
  • Summary: The CD Drive plate is not removable. The software for the screen only has the custom text when the xtools program is running you can not change the default.

WONDERFUL PLATFORM

Justin R., Newegg
6 September 2009
  • Summary: E5300 dual core pentium (wolfdale core) overclocked to 3.06 GHZ from stock 2.50 GHZ using the shuttle ice ICE in manual control mode. set to 100 fan speed of 127(using xpc tools). the way the fan pulses in smart control mode is highly annoying.
  • Pros: Works flawlessly with windows 7 32 bit. There was not a known version for XPC tools. But this is solved by the compatibility mode in windows itself. install the vista version in 32 bit and run it in compatibility mode for vista 32 bit in windows 7. VFD driver found itself as well as the fingerpri...
  • Cons: Fingerprint reader is useless. software has a total of 5 activations and will not function after that, so no messing around testing it for me. Took a while to figure the relationship between BIOS and the VFD display built into the front panel. Additionally all pin headers for USB on motherboard a...

Update to Vista 64 bit issue

Vijay K., Newegg
2 September 2009
  • Pros: Update to my last comment. The issue was not related to video driver or any other hardware. It was to do with spydoctor from Google pack on vista 64 bit.
  • Cons: None - very happy to purchase this

Great Construction

Vijay K., Newegg
28 August 2009
  • Summary: Build 1 TB Samsung HDD Pioneer DVD burnner Intel 9550S 65W Quard Core Vista 64 Home Premium
  • Pros: Looks, VFD, Compact, low noise and really good construction. This is second Shuttle I have build for home use. Things are arranged so well that I took some time to admire the internal construction. CPU heat sink is connected to the system fan a brilliant idea to reduce noise.
  • Cons: Has some difficulty aligning DVD Drive with the door button. Other than that vista 64 screen savers, switch user and logoff seem to kill the signal to monitor .... no option but to restart the machine. Monitor connected to the HDMI. I do not believe it is Shuttle issue but some thing to do with v...

It has everything I need

Ke Z., Newegg
27 August 2009
  • Summary: I wish Shuttle will provide Win 7 drivers/utilities very soon.
  • Pros: tons of features, finger print reader, VFD, wifi, 1394, HDMI, etc. Just got it, installed Core 2 Quad 9550, 4G memory, 500G HD, 24" LCD. Still Looking for a blu-ray burner. Currently have DVD-ROM installed. Just installed Windows 7RC yesterday. It works with some issues
  • Cons: Most issues I have seem to be related with Win 7. I think I can't blame Shuttle as they don;t have Win7 driver yet. But here is a list, xPC tools crashes on Win7. VGA driver wn't install. I got the latest G33 chipset driver from intel. Without xPC tools, I don;t know how to make VFD work. And for...

Shuttle Good

Srikanth V., Newegg
14 August 2009
  • Summary: Great product for a cheap price.
  • Pros: Assembled in 30mins, no issues so far. Lots of people complaint about Noise issue, mine is not bad at all. Installed Windows 7 ultimate, Works just fine, all the components works great except the VFD. I didnt have to install any additional drivers, Windows 7 took care of it all (Except for VFD). ...
  • Cons: None, I couldnt make the VFD to work, of course I didnt spend any time to make this work. Display didnt work when I connected this to old CRT monitor, when I switched this to HDMI, it worked fine.

Beautiful unit but with flaws

Patrick H., Newegg
8 August 2009
  • Summary: The unit initially didn’t recognize the Q6600 processor I installed but after I changed the multiplier it seems to be working OK. Strangely there’s no automatic setting for the multiplier.
  • Pros: The build quality is beautiful and so is the unit. It looks expensive. The mirrored front panel and the VFD display look classy. The Quad Core 6600 I’ve current got in it runs too hot so I’m going to change to a 65W Core2 Duo. I was worried that updating the BIOS might not go smoothly because the...
  • Cons: The integrated Intel graphics are woefully inadequate for HTPC use. I’m running a Core Quad 6600 and 4 gigs of memory and media center still bogs down. And there are few options offered by the Intel graphics program. It will play Xvid and Dvix movies fine but HD content from my cable company slow...

Does the job

Boris D., Newegg
6 August 2009
  • Summary: A fun little box. I used it to put together a computer for my parents to use, as they had a very old computer. Aside from my drive conflict snag, it was a smooth process.
  • Pros: Got the shipment quickly. All the parts worked. The instructions were pretty straight forward and simple to follow. The little shelf for the hard drive and DVD drive has a neat and useful design. Also, the small size is very convenient.
  • Cons: I ran into a bit of a snag with my DVD drive conflicting with my hard drive, as it was set to master drive, but after putting the DVD drive as CS it was able to boot from it and to install windows fresh. --Note the DVD drive i use is IDE and so is the hard drive.

First Shuttle experience may be last

James D., Newegg
6 August 2009
  • Summary: Still, overall, a good buy for the money. The best test will be if I ever hear back from Shuttle support regarding the VFD x64 drivers.... not holding my breath :-)
  • Pros: At $230ish - a great buy. Style, proposed features, and current Intel chipset(s).
  • Cons: Hmmm, where to start? If you are planning on Vista x64, keep this in mind - NO VFD support and NO fingerprint recognition support. There may be a driver on the Shuttle website for the VFD, but it doesn't work. And, memory will only run at 800 - so why pay for faster RAM?

Nice for HTPC except for HDMI

Carlos C., Newegg
27 July 2009
  • Summary: Since my HDMI fried, the system still works just fine. I had to put in a video card though. I used a PCI-E 2.0 Sapphire HD-4550 fanless card and fits okay with the TV tuner in the PCI slot.
  • Pros: Nice size small form factor. Quiet (not sure why others say it's noisy) Easy to set up. Very nice looking, Includes Remote control and also programable to a Harmony remote. Aside from HDMI issues, this machine is quiet, fast and efficient. Haven't had any other problems with it. CPU runs cool bet...
  • Cons: HDMI video goes bad. My friend has one and it went south after about 4 months, got another and went bad after about 1.5 years. I have had mine for 2 years and now my onboard HDMI has gone bad too. (Just displays washed out, vga still works. Also HDMI with PowerDVD is bad, I have only had one driv...
