The Shuttle X PC SB61G2 Pint-Sized P4 Powerhouse! "Burned in" by Robert Maloney June 8th, 2003 A major trend in the technology industry is miniaturization.  It's no longer good enough to be the fastest or more technologically advanced anymore.  These days everything from cell phones to MP3 players to digital cameras, are showing up on retail shelves in increasingly smaller packages.  So, it should come as no real surprise that PC manufacturers would also follow... If you paid close attention to Small Form Factor (SFF) PC specifications, you would have realized that most of them have been designed around a motherboard utilizing an older chipset model. Take for example the Intel Pentium 4 platform, you would most often notice SFF PCs based on the SiS 651, Intel 845G / GV chipset variants and these are not as updated as the chipsets used on most retail motherboards. Plus, chipsets with integrated graphics cores are not usually... Read more

Far and away, the SB61G2 is Shuttle’s most impressive product to date. Although the SN41G2 should receive credit for paving the road to get here, no other XPC system has done everything as well as the SB61G2. From its support for industry leading features and the latest and greatest technology to the polished modern appearance complete with a few improvements over the SN41G2, the Springdale-based Shuttle has something for everyone. For the skeptics who were holding out... Read more

Opening the box can be a bit intimidating if you've never built a system. However, the motherboard is already installed, so assembling everything is fairly straightforward. The only problem is the accompanying literature, which is sparse and dated. I quickly realized that the directions were for an older model and didn't even have updated specs. For instance, it claimed that the fastest compatible RAM was 333MHz when in fact 400MHz is what you should use if you're using... Read more

Shuttle’s SB61G2 is the new pinnacle of small form factor products for the Pentium 4 platform. Its 865G chipset is the latest offering from Intel. It’s actually a tribute to Shuttle’s engineers that we’re able to talk to you about the SB61G2 on Springdale’s launch day, remember when we had to wait months for Shuttle XPCs to catch up with developments on the desktop? Shuttle has 1,000 units sitting in their US office waiting to be shipped. This is not including... Read more
