Not worth it

sarahmattina, the baby Scoop
5 June 2013
  • Excerpt: I received the Bumbo as a gift and I really wish I had asked for the receipt. My baby (4 mos) does not like it at all. She tries to squirm out as soon as she is in it and screams when you try to attach the tray. It is an expensive gift so if you are buying it for someone, make sure they've given it a test run at a friend's place or in the store. On the upside, it is very easy to clean so if the baby likes it great!

Best Seat For Our Little Guy

3bees, the baby Scoop
14 February 2012
  • Excerpt: I’ll preface this review by saying that the Bumbo is definitely not for all babies, but it was a compete lifesaver for us. We took it almost everywhere with us. Our little guy wasn’t overly chubby, so he fit into it perfectly and it supported him when he had just learned to sit up. I love how portable it is and easy to clean. We would put it on the floor and our son would sit happily playing with his toys. We were quite sad when he outgrew it.

Bumbo Jumbo

jhreno, the baby Scoop
15 August 2011
  • Excerpt: My son absolutely hated sitting in this thing. He's a pretty active little guy - as many boys tend to be - and to me it seemed like, precisely what it is designed to do - gently keep a child in place with its soft, ridged sides and deep seat - is what made him so agitated about it. He couldn't get in an out of it at will. And it drove him crazy. The distress the very sight of it eventually inspired was enough for me to hide, and finally get rid of, it.

Bumbo with tray

Annwen123, Made for Mums
13 June 2011
  • Summary: Great product, probably one of the best baby buys I've ever made
  • Pros: The Bumbo lets baby sit upright so they can see what’s going on. Keeps baby safe if you need to leave the room for a minute of if you have other children around. The playtray provides the perfect height surface to play a toy/book on for baby to play with or read. My daughter has loved reading her animals book and playing with her rattle whilst sat in there. It will be ideal for when she starts finger foods as the tray is in easy reach for little hands Its portable, I ...
  • Cons: I haven't found any.

Glad I didn't buy it!

joseys, the baby Scoop
20 July 2010
  • Excerpt: We have 2 of these on loan from friends - one at our house, one at Grandma's. Our daughter could hold her head up almost immediately so we thought she'd enjoy this, but nope! When she was starting to sit up she didn't like being in it for more than a couple of minutes. Then once she started sitting and rolling over, forget it...she had no use for this seat and easily wriggled out.

Originally from South Africa it is not a booster seat

Carol Tommy, Made for Mums
27 May 2010
  • Pros: A really comfortable baby seat, which I am delighted to see here in the UK. It was very common in South Africa, I think because it is very difficult to climb out of and the baby stays seated whilst you do your chores. But my baby is happy to sit and play within and I am happy she is off the cold stone floor in the winter. I got mine from thebabycatalogue.com who had it in pink.
  • Cons: But it cannot be used as a booster seat as there are no safety straps to secure it to a chair so it’s hopeless for that purpose. Also being so big and bulky cannot be carried around to other places to use.

It's a good chair because you can just put your baby in without worrying if they will hurt themselves.

Anja Abdulla, Made for Mums
13 November 2009
  • Summary: Its OK for small babies but not if your baby is mobile and gets bored easily.
  • Pros: Can leave child in for a while if your busy. It is approved by pediatricians and orthopedic doctors.
  • Cons: They get bored just sitting after a while. If you dont have a tray they cant play with toys.

Couldnt live without it

joanna kasznicki, Made for Mums
2 October 2009
  • Summary: great piece of kit. i found it essential and a lifesaver with my eldest and will use it again with my little one. Need to buy a tray though as it didnt come with one.
  • Pros: lightweight and movable. Iused to feed my son in this when we went to the grandparents and he could sit up. He also enjoyed sitting in this and playiong with his toys without me worrying if he would fall anyway and hurt himself
  • Cons: when my son started to roll around he also got to grips with pulling himself out of it
