Summary: O.K. just got this. Sounds very good for it's size. Although not that small. Tone is warm, smooth and clean. Speakers do not attach to the center unit. This is three separate pieces. Speakers are clad in metal on the top, front and bottom. The speaker box itself is composite wood. The center unit is all metal. Sides, top, bottom, back and front. Speaker wires that are furnished extend the speakers about 4.5 feet from center unit.
Summary: Great little unit but was expecting more from it. I use this in my office at work so it is usually turned down very low, mostly background music while in my office. At low volumes you lose the low base, which is not too good at any volume. I have a Boston alarm clock that has a very good quality sound at any level and it is about ⅓ the size. Though I would buy again, I think that there are probably better units out there for the price (Boston alarm clock was $100).
Summary: Great little systems, Fills a large room with clear sound. Make sure when you get it to check out all the features. There appears to be a quality control problem as I found in my first unit. Amazon return policy was great and my new unit, which arrived in a couple of days, is perfect. Finally, my wife, a lovely Luddite, is comfortable with turning on music from all sources. She loves the sound and the ease of use.
Summary: first let me say that I listen to chamber music-String Quartets. this review is based on right out of the box. Pros: very clear detailed sound, much better than my old Sony shelf system. Fairly easy to set up.I did have a question and called Yamaha, spoke to a live person who solved the minor problem right away. I placed the speakers 2feet from each, and got very good stereo effect.
Summary: I have the dark gray micro component system (the light gray was out of stock). It doesn't take up much room and sounds great. My ipod does not fit in the slot but otherwise it's a very good system and I am happy I bought it.
