cool

Tanya Haydt, Amazon
17 December 2012
  • Summary: I got this a while ago, and we actually still have it. Still works. Beyond that - it is pretty much cut-and-dry. Standard stereo.

Decent performance but stopped working within 3 years

Kirk, Amazon
11 August 2012
  • Summary: I bought one of these in 2009 to replace a Sony boombox that just didn't have enough "oomph" to it. The two large speakers provide plenty of volume for indoor use, haven't tried it outside yet but I imagine it would carry well enough for an outdoor party. As other reviewers have noted, the equalizer presets offer 7 different settings with varying bass and treble. Sometimes it can be hard to find a good setting for playback.

Good stereo

Turp, Amazon
20 September 2009
  • Summary: Bought two of these as Christmas presents last year. I liked the IPod dock option and it works well. The Iphone will warn you it is "not a supported device" and prompt you to turn off the phone to eliminate any 3G interference. I do not do this and have no issues with it. The sound is decent. My daughter leaves it on 24 hours a day, much to my dismay, but we have had no issues at all with them.

Sony Stereo

Mary Ann Sawyer, Amazon
14 April 2009
  • Summary: [[ASIN:B00171T0SE Sony MHCEC78Pi Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System with Digital Media Port and 380-Watts RMS (Silver)] I like the system except the speaker cords are too short for where I want to place them and the system doesn't have any extra speaker outlets. I use this for listening to the radio and it does not allow me to access some stations that I like to listen to.

Solid for the price

Carl VanHooten "liquidfire985", Amazon
9 March 2009
  • Summary: This thing isn't going to blow the door off dorm room hinges but it pumps out quality sound. I bought it for my girlfriend who has a studio and this thing is nice and loud enough to blanket the bedroom and kitchen area (which aren't connected in a typical rectangular fashion). It's a great option for a living room area or bedroom. The price on this thing makes it right all the way.

Hype Not Substance

Paul Walchak, Amazon
2 November 2008
  • Summary: This unit was the middle of three Sony offerings at a national chain. I should have walked away when I saw that none of the three would lock on to even one station...when there's almost two dozen stations right in town. But hey, it's a Sony, right? People who say Sony has gone downhill are just blowing steam.... I'm beginning to think they were right. Here's why: 1) FM reception is marginal, even with ideal antenna placement.

MHC EC78Pi

David deJongh, Amazon
25 October 2008
  • Summary: Pros: OK sound, plays MP3 CDs, OK FM reception, iPod connection. Cons: Horrible looking speakers, speaker leads too short, clock display cuts off after 8 seconds, no CD changer. I bought one of these to replace a 7-year old Magnavox mini component system with a 5-CD changer, in one of my vacation rental homes. Quite a miracle that it lasted this long.

Just what we needed!!!!

MSHall "Musician", Amazon
15 October 2008
  • Summary: Great system! Could not be happier with the sound quality and features on this system. The ipod dock is a great feature especially with the controls on the remote. A little more depth than your average bookshelf system, but still is compact.

Why the high and low frequency speaker leads?

Steve Riccardi, Amazon
10 August 2008
  • Summary: I bought this unit to have a good sound system in my bedroom and to power my outdoor speakers. I wanted to buy a speaker switch but in addition to the usual red/black speaker leads, this unit has extra blue/gray leads for the "high frequency" part of the speaker. These extra leads make a standard speaker switch unworkable. Why are these extra leads needed?? of course, the information that came with the unit was no help.
