Very good sound but this unit failed quickly

Phil, Amazon
5 May 2012
  • Summary: Shopped around online and bought this product sight unseen because of Sony's reputation. Upon receiving it the installation was easy and sound was very good, better than expected. However, it is now 90 days and the device has failed. Nothing but a loud hum from the left channel. Troubleshooting per the manual did not fix it, there are no shorts in the wiring. Pressing the 'eq' button on the lower left of the unit results in immediate shutdown.

OK sound with shoddy construction and malfunctioning remote

Tom McQ, Amazon
10 October 2010
  • Summary: I was hoping this stereo would be a convenient, portable music player we could move into whatever room it was needed. And it was a Sony. I own other Sony stereo components (FM receiver, CD player) and have been happy with them. But we were sorely disappointed with the quality and usability of this CMT-LX20i and need to return it. The negatives: First, the front buttons are finicky and often do not react when pushed -- even when pushed firmly.

Sounds thin and weak.

Stagger Lee, Amazon

  • Summary: I took a chance with this and lost. It's just cheaply designed. Sounds very thin. No bass, no adjustable EQ, just some presets that are irrelevant.

Okay value for features but sound quality too bassy

Jim, Amazon
16 May 2010
  • Summary: For my kitchen, I was looking for a good radio/CD combo with an iPod docking station. I figured the Sony CMT-LX20i would be a solid choice, given the Sony name, the price (~$110), and the fairly good reviews it received. After some use, I've become unhappy with my choice. There are no separate treble & bass adjustments - just 3 settings for 'rock' 'jazz' and 'pop.' It is not bad for music played at louder levels but the midrange is lacking in every case.
