Summary: I've had two of these systems - rather I've had an XL-MP130 and a sibling (the XL-MP131, I think, which is sold as an exclusive model by a major electronics house. Only the color was exclusive, the rest was exactly the same. Except the price.) Both systems exhibit the same problem: If you play CDs for maybe 2-3 hours at LOW volume, the unit overheats. This will be manifest by the player being unable to read disks in the top CD drawers.
Summary: Don't hesitate with this item, I received it quickly and it sounds great. I wanted a silver /chrome look for my bedroom, and love the fact it plays 5 CD's... also that I can hook up my TV to the speakers . Everything works great and arrived in perfect condition. Thanks. Great purchase.
Summary: I was skeptical about buying something "reconditioned" but this was for our office and I just hoped for the best. I have owned Sharp electronics before and was very happy with them. This little stereo has great, crisp, sound whether turned down low or loud. The radio comes in beautifully even though it is in the middle of our offfice (1 story building). I've only had it a week, but so far I am very pleased.
Summary: I decided to replace my rack system and its huge speakers with something much smaller. This system not only frees up space in my living room, it fills the room (and rest of apt.) with excellent, rich sound. I'm amazed at the amount of "depth" these small speakers provide, while the tweeters offer crisp, clear highs. For the reviewer complaining it can't handle "heavy" rock, etc., definitely hook up a good subwoofer.
Summary: Did a lot of research for all kinds of bookshelf systems. Was a gift for my wife's mother. She says the sound is great. It has a sleek finish and can fit hardly anywhere. One of the best looking and sounding systems you can find, and affordable. Great Deal!
Not if you like hard rock, metal, stoner or anything "heavy"

Summary: I had to give up my wonderful 10 yr old Sony for ERROR reasons. Rather than pay outrageous prices for a fix or refurbish, I shopped around for a new model. This received such good reviews that I bought it. I am disappointed. Sure it makes the house vibrate. But it sounds better one floor below me than it does in my own apartment. If you like pop, classical, etc, buy it. But if you're like me and you enjoy heavier sounds, the equalizer plus X Bass cannot help you.
Summary: I have been visiting BestBuy, CircuitCity as of late. I like to see which one will be my next purchase for under $150. I do not need a subwoofer since I already have a THX certified sub, which just needs to be connected to a compact stereo unit. So, I tested Sony, Panasonic, Philips, JVC, and this Sharp all $100-$150. JVC ruled out, their systems cost more than $150. Sony ones under $150 have no bass, ruled out.
Summary: I'm very pleased with the performance of this system, I had been doing lots of research in other similar products sold by Amazon, and what made me choose this particular product was the fact that it plays MP3 and also WMA, since many others play MP3 format only; It plays great, it sounds great, remember, it's a 170 watts component, you just need to be aware that if you have mixed formats in one c.d it might not play at all, for example if you have mp3 and wma together in...
