Like attempting to install a home Jacuzzi, hooking up the Squeezebox Duet caused us to curse, sweat and throw our hands up in the air out of the box, but very quickly made amends as soon as it started working. To music lovers, reclining on the couch with a never-ending supply of tunes at their fingertips might actually be an even more relaxing than sitting in a stifling hot, over-chlorinated tub anyway. When you see a color display on a music-streamer’s remote control, it’s natural to assume that the manufacturer is going after the vaunted Sonos Digital Music System. But after thoroughly testing the Squeezebox Duet—Slim Devices’s first new product since being acquired by Logitech—we’ve concluded that Sonos has little to worry about. Read more

Nice job with the firmware upgrade, Logitech! When we first reviewed the baby Squeezebox five months ago (issue 16.06), we weren’t totally impressed — the device seemed difficult to use. Well, we’ve changed our tune. The Duet now connects your computer’s music library to your stereo with kindergarten ease and MIT smarts. Setup is a snap — we were piping our favorite songs all over the house in minutes. But what really won us over was the playback. Read more

    • Can be slow connecting to large libraries via WiFi; our 10,000-tune trove sometimes made the Duet controller sing solo. No DRM support.

There are quite a few solutions on the market for wireless digital audio. When Logitech acquired Slim Devices a couple years ago, they jumped into the fray with the Squeezebox line of products. Logitech quickly turned out their own twist on the product line, the Squeezebox Duet. We've had one in the HT Guys lab for quite a while and recently got the chance to plug it in, power it on and give it a listen. Read more

This evolution of the Squeezebox should prove to be a winner for its new parent company. All the makings of a good sequel are there; extra goodies, unexpected surprises, a flashy new look and a slimmer and trimmer appearance. Logitech is unapologetically aiming squarely at Sonos with this one. Are the two systems direct competitors? Not exactly, but Logitech is bound to take a bite and woo away a few dollar conscious, tech savvy buyers. Read more

Control all your tunes—all over the house. The Squeezebox Duet helps lazy music lovers live the dream of easy access to their digital album collections. Purchased this item early this year and honestly it has two working modes; rarely or barely. It actually played music fro my computer (just one room away) for about a week. Spent HOURS on the phone with their tech support trying to get it to do anything! Software updates render the unit completely useless so you have to reset to older versions again, and again, and again. It has since, and only on occasion allowed me to launch Pandora but the reception is awful. Read more

The squeezebox is a good idea and when I first got it I thought it was great. But the constant required software updates for the server software that runs on the computer and the updates that are constantly being pushed down to the squeezebox make the thing stop working all of the time. Then I end up spending an hour or more getting my music working again. Read more

I bought this product and was rooting for it to work well bigtime. However, I have spent 8 hours this week with Logitech trying to get it to work. Logitech acknowledges a glitch it has with customers that also have Verizon Fios. After 8 hours of trouble shooting with Logitech, we did have to use another router, and got it to work. The range is short though. My laptop which runs on wifi has FAR greater distance. The product itself though is incredibly cool. Read more

I had been thinking about buying one of these for several months, and this year, my wonderful wife gave me the money to go and buy one. I bought it from Richer Sounds for £225. This story has a happy ending, so don't give up after the first part. Investigated music streamers after watching Gadget Show, choosing Squeezebox Duet with 2 extra receivers for a 3 room solution.
