Reviews and Problems with Symantec Norton Utilities

No King Kong, but it tries to help clean your computer ... given the software limits.
20 January 2015
Summary: Yes, this Utility software will function with 8.1 Windows (HP Laptop), but is not as effective in cleaning the operating system as other "aggressive" software tools (maybe for the better .... could crash system otherwise). The functionality is questionable; in other words, when operating the performance program, the performance indicator does not reflect correction input - I believe the limits of the program to correct given errors is restricted by the operating system...
For the price this is good software to fix basic system issues

Summary: Does not correct all of the issues. For the price this is good software to fix basic system issues. I have found that the software does not clean history thoroughly. I have had to do that manually in order to clean out all of history and temporary files. I recommend the day to day user shop for software that has a few more features to repair disk space and registry.
Summary: I tested Norton Utilities on two separate systems, a laptop and a tower PC, both with solid state drives. For systems with solid state drives (aka SSD), I'd say this product is more or less useless because it can't be used to defrag the drive, it's only for system with hard disk drives (HDD).
Summary: The Norton Utilities claims to fix and free up common problems and memory by deleting certain files (duplicates and unused programs). To be honest, after running the program, I didn't notice a big change in my computer speed. Maybe a little, but I don't know. The thing is, my computer was never extremely slow to begin with because I manually delete old files and programs myself. So, for me, I don't think the program was of great benefit.
Average Tune-Up Software that did not break too much stuff
Thomas Wikman "Texas Swede", Amazon
16 November 2012
Summary: Tune Up applications sometimes break stuff and I've had my share of bad experiences. Norton Utilities 16.0 did do some things I did not like. For example, the first initial scan removed all browser history and cookies including my stored passwords. Well, that is configurable and at least it did not cause any major havoc. I've had other tune up applications (Fix It! Utilities Professional and PC Health Advisor) do some really bad things to my computer.
Excerpt: So an opinion on Norton?s personal firewall, I bet they all start with this is simple and protects my computer etc, etc, bla,h blah, and I recommend them to any one. Well sorry to disappoint you all but I think Symmantec is one of the most underhand companies I have come across. You see we are all in a state of flux with the new operating system windows XP.
Excerpt: I recently installed Norton office 2000.It detected several errors on my computer and I agreed for it to fix them. i used the uninstaller and let it remove those applications which it advised were not needed. My computer behaved strangely after this. I lost my favourites in Explorer and could not use any other explorer tools. i eventually uninstalled and reinstalled explorer which sorted the problem. I found guard dog annoying.
