Conclusion: Kaspersky PURE Total Security has everything you'd expect in a suite plus much, much more. Other products score better in PCMag's anti-malware tests, but Kaspersky rates high with the antivirus labs. This suite is a very good choice.
Pros: Comprehensive collection of security tools. High marks from antivirus labs. Intelligent firewall controls level of access for applications. Effective against rootkits and leak tests. Full remote management over network.
Cons: Needed tech support to clean up one infested test system. Several test systems bluescreened, but recovered. So-so scores in PCMag anti-malware tests. Access control feature blocked both malware and valid programs.
Conclusion: Kaspersky PURE 3.0 Total Security includes every security component you can imagine, most of them very good. Some might even prefer it to Norton 360, our current Editors' Choice for mega-suite.
Pros: Installed on infested test systems with help from ancillary tools, tech-support advice. Very good scores from independent antivirus labs. Near-best antiphishing. Intelligent firewall. Password manager syncs across devices. Full-powered parental control. Remote management of other Kaspersky installations. Can back up to Dropbox. File encryption and shredding. Privacy scan. Useless file scan. Vulnerability scan. Safe Money online transaction protection.
Cons: Good, not great, scores in PCMag antivirus tests. Spam filter slowed mail downloading. Backed-up files not encrypted.
Conclusion: Mega-suite Kaspersky PURE 2.0 Total Security includes every imaginable security component, and the independent test labs rate its antivirus protection tops. In PCMag's testing several components didn't attain the very best scores, but it's still a good choice.
Pros: Excellent scores from independent antivirus labs. Good scores in PCMag's malware removal tests. Powerful, unusual firewall. Remote configuration. Full-featured parental control. Password management. Virtualization. File encryption and secure deletion.
Cons: Trouble installing on malware-infested systems. Mediocre scores in PCMag's malware removal tests. So-so phishing detection. No online backup. Spam filter missed a third of spam.
