Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 Review
9 December 2013
Summary: Kaspersky continues to produce quality security software that is highly rated at independent IT security companies as well as users for ease of use and performance at detecting and removing malware and general computer security.
Pros: Top security scores form independent testing, Easy malware removal, Top firewall blocks traffic, Parental control is easy to use, Safe Money works well with added security for finances
Conclusion: The 2014 edition of Kaspersky Internet Security manages to deflect most system attacks. The default configuration is more than enough for casual computer users, while advanced ones have the possibility to tweak each aspect of the security modules.
Pros: Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 works on all popular Windows versions, including 8 and 8.1 (32-bit and 64-bit). It contains multiple languages and thorough user documentation, showing helpful hints throughout the interface. The GUI is pleasant and easy to work with, even for users with a limited background in antivirus utilities. The program delivered good results in our tests, with an 81% success rate at identifying and deleting viruses. It has a wide array of prote...
Cons: It takes a while to scan and remove files, and system resources spike during the latter task. The real-time guard is not the promptest we've seen so far in security programs.
Excerpt: The new Kaspersky Internet Security for Mac continues using the promising features of last year's version while also incorporating some interesting new tricks. By striving for the cutting edge of security, Kaspersky wants to help keep Mac users one step ahead of the ever-growing hordes of Mac-hungry cybercriminals.
Conclusion: The 2014 edition of Kaspersky Internet Security includes everything you'd expect from a security suite, and all of the components work as they should. It doesn't score as well in my hands-on antivirus tests as in independent lab tests, but it's a good choice for protection.
Pros: Excellent antivirus lab test scores. Good score in hands-on malware removal test. Accurate phishing detection. Excellent spam filtering. Intelligent firewall blocks leak tests and exploits. Parental control system more complete than many suites. Safe Money feature adds layers of protection for sensitive online transactions.
Cons: Just average score in hands-on malware blocking test. Some difficulty installing on malware-infested test systems. No remote management or monitoring with parental control.
Summary: Kaspersky is one security product which touches almost all aspects of protection and there are several methods implemented to secure your system against malware threats. For instance, there is cloud-based protection which continually gathers information about new malware threats from millions of consenting users' computers.
Pros: Strong antivirus, good performance in malicious website test
Cons: Memory consumption is slightly high, No online storage
