Kaspersky Internet Security 2011
22 March 2011
Conclusion: This suite's firewall is smart enough to do its job without hassling you, its parental control tops almost all the competition, and it offers some unusual and useful bonus tools. Its performance in my anti-malware tests didn't come up to the glowing ratings from independent labs, though.
Pros: Tough, intelligent, automated firewall actively blocks exploits. Praised by independent antivirus labs. Sandbox protects system files and sensitive surfing. Comprehensive parental control system. Minimal system performance.
Cons: Didn't reach expectations in my malware-removal tests. Antispam allowed many spam messages into Inbox. Performed poorly in antiphishing tests.
Summary: Verdict: Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 includes a plethora of features to protect your machine and its data from a variety of Internet threats. It is reasonably priced, runs without making its presence felt for the most part and is easy-to-use.
Pros: Well priced, loads of features and tools to protect your machine and its data, virus/threat database is updated quite frequently.
Cons: Steep space requirements, system performance is affected when a full scan is running in the background.
Summary: On top of all these security shields, Kaspersky rounds out its package with a toy box of tools that includes a downloadable ISO to create a rescue CD or USB key, a vulnerability scan to alert you to potential security holes with your system/programs, a privacy cleaner (vacuums up your various caches), and a browser diagnostic for IE users.
Pros: Protects against a variety of threats; sandbox mode; virtual keyboard.
Summary: Kaspersky rightly takes its place as one of the most effective and inclusive security software companies in the country. While Internet Security 2011 may be lacking in anti-phishing protection, it does offer a host of features that do not come standard with every security suite.
Summary: Kaspersky's latest refresh to its premium security suite introduces several new tools to help keep your computer safe while enhancing older ones. The few problems in Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 loom larger than they would otherwise, though, because of the high retail cost of the suite.
Pros: Tools are well organised, Screens open faster, High marks for scan detection and speed
Cons: Potentially a less-than-smooth installation, A bit pricey compared to the competition
