F-Secure Internet Security 2012
2 March 2012
Conclusion: Most components of F-Secure Internet Security 2012 do a good job, though phishing protection and parental control are weak. Its effect on system performance is very low. As good as it is, other suites are better.
Pros: Antivirus gets good scores in PCMag's tests and independent tests. DeepGuard uses statistical and behavioral techniques to detect malware. Includes revamped parental control. Blocks access to malicious and phishing URLs. Very small effect on performance.
Cons: DeepGuard called some valid programs harmful in testing. Antiphishing is weak. Firewall easily disabled. Parental control is not browser-independent.
Summary: All things considered, F-Secure Internet Security 2012 is a good product. It'll do an effective job. This year's internet security suites are great, however, and F-Secure doesn't quite keep up with the leaders of the pack.
Excerpt: F-Secure's Internet Security suite brilliantly implements the popular BitDefender malware detection engine to create a reassuringly easy-to-use software package. F-Secure effortlessly achieved a 100 per cent defence rate against malicious programs from the internet. Every single test threat was blocked as soon as its web address started to load, usually with an F-Secure generated in-browser warning telling us that a harmful website had been blocked.
