Summary: I am using this camera for a university photography class (black and white) and am very happy with it. It has half-stops for more accurate aperture settings, which I'm really appreciating now that we're shooting. It feels very sturdy and has a good response. My first prints are looking good.
Had Mine Since 1990... Outstanding Budget Manual...

Summary: 'kay, got in to photography years ago, and was looking for a used Pentax 1000 "student camera". This was pre-eBay days. Well, the cost of a used, dinged, dented, Pentax 1000 was twice the price of this "K-Mart Special", the Vivitar.
Pros: - Light, small, cheap - Durable, had mine for 15 years - FAST, GOOD, Sharp 1.7 50mm prime lens. - K mount... lots of great used Tac and 3rd party lenses - Shutter speeds from "B" to 1/2000
Cons: - Build quality not on par with Nikes, Canons, etc. That said, I had mine since about 1990. Survived a couple drops, too - Camera jammed once after 10 yrs. Fixed by a good smack on the back. LOL
Excerpt: The Vivitar 3800 N SLR is a great entry level piece for beginners to photography. The camera is versatile and strong, and is supplied with a zoom lens which operates from a wide angle outwards. Having used the camera myself for three years now, I've found it trusty, reliable and strong.
Pros: Robust, long lasting and a great little entry level learner
