The Nikon F4 is a single-lens reflex 35 mm camera with an integral motor. The Nikon F4 series, a film camera was designed by Giorgetto Guigiaro and introduced in 1988. This modern series classic introduced Nikon owners to using autofocus for the first time.

The picture format is 24mm by 36mm using standard 35mm film. The focus modes have manual and electronic rangefinder and autofocus.

The Nikon F4 series will accept lenses that are manufactured for the F mount system, except for the DX, G, and S because they do not fit the mechanical opening, however, AF Nikkor and Nikon MF lenses can be used with the Nikon F4 body.

There are sixteen shutter speeds that can be used with the F4 camera; they range from four seconds to 1/8800th of a second. The Nikon F4 is the most compact, with an advance speed of 4.0 frames per second. The F4s camera has the vertical shutter release and an advance speed of 5.7 frames per second. The last of the F4 series, the F4e introduced in 1991, an advance speed of 5.7 frames per second, the largest pack and a 250 exposure bulk film multi-control MF 24 terminal.

Three power sources, the small button cell, the battery pack which uses four AA batteries and the four coreless motors which provide the autofocus feature are unique to the Nikon F4 film camera. The battery pack is interchangeable with all three camera types. The dimensions with the multi power high speed battery pack are 6.7 x 6.2 x 3.0 inches. The mirror lock is located above AF-L lever; it provides stability from shaking while taking a picture.

For double exposure pull the multiple exposure levers before taking the picture. The Nikon F4 has a rubber coating and a black matte finish to guard against wear and tear.
