  • Summary: This is a good camera; lots of useful features. The eye-controlled focus is, however, not as useful as I thought it would be. Perhaps if there were even more focus points, it would change the way I compose and take pictures.
  • Pros: excellent features, quiet
  • Cons: too big, eye-controlled focus over-rated

  • Excerpt: This was definitely one of the great film cameras of its time. Very versatile, very robust and delivers excellent results. I still have two of them, though Canon digital SLRs are what I use now. Both my EOS 5 bodies got plenty of use and never once let me down.
  • Pros: Solid, reliable, very full specification .
  • Cons: Heavy and bulky compared to some .

Camera bargain for the film user.

  • Excerpt: OK, so the Canon EOS 5 is an obsolete camera, but…………what a fantastic secondhand bargain. Canon produced the EOS 5 for upwards of 9 years, by which time, although it was still selling well, it was starting to look a little dated.
  • Pros: Fantastic secondhand bargain .   Fantastic camera .
  • Cons: Fairly heavy .   Difficult to find a good one .

  • Excerpt: I used to own a heavy and noisy Nikon camera and being an amateur wildlife photographer, I wanted something that wouldn't disturb the animals. I bought my Canon EOS 5 secondhand with not a scratch and at a good price. I haven't regretted it since.
  • Pros: Quiet, fast sport function, beautiful colours
  • Cons: Heavy, eye focus, light needs

  • Excerpt: I knew I was going to like this camera from the moment I tried it in the shop. It handles great and has everything you could need for landscape and sports photography. I find it's best kept in 'P' mode and this gives superbly metered pictures.
  • Pros: Eye controlled focusing, great handling, superb metering
  • Cons: Eye control focusing only works in horizontal plane, Poor in built flash

Great in its day

  • Excerpt: I first became a Canon user in 1986 when I bought a Canon T90, which was a wonderful camera. I had been sceptical about autofocus cameras but having played around with a friend’s Canon EOS in 1992, I decided to take the plunge and move over to an autofocus SLR.
  • Pros: Accurate eye controlled focusing, Accurate metering and Lots of features
  • Cons: Eye controlled focusing doesn’t work when camera held vertically, Reliant upon 2CR5 batteries

A great camera - so sad to see it end of line

  • Excerpt: I had an old EOS600 which I shared with my father. He tought me everything I know about photography (not a great deal, but enough to take good pictures and make good memories). He's now living 2000 miles away from me, so the sharing part became much harder, so it came time for me to buy my own...
  • Pros: Hi speed, flexible lenses, fully manual if you want it, plenty of useful programs if you don't
  • Cons: Sometimes metering is "questionable", battery usage somewhat high

  • Pros: 1.
  • Cons: Нет
