great way to shoot film

Bad Dog Photography, B&H Photo
7 May 2014
  • Excerpt: I bought mine because I'm always hearing about the quality of photos being better when shot with a modern film camera, instead of the technology of the 60's and 70's. I don't think the camera body matters as much as the lenses, but this is the flagship EOS, so it takes the great glass Canon makes currently. Pretty easy to get used to as well, since it's the same layout as the digital, without the extra controls.

  • Excerpt: Beautiful camera, everything, I expected. Compares well, with my Contax, and Leica cameras. It truly is built like a "tank". All the latest lenses and equipment work, with it. Including the IS lenses. It has many great features, and modes. While I will continue to shoot with my Digital Canons. I do love to slow down and shoot film too. This camera makes it a real joy.
  • Pros: Comfortable Design, Fast Film Loading, Fingertip Controls, Reliable Operation, Strong Construction

Digital content practically can't export

Michael, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: Pretty much like all other reviews, solid build, great camera, deserves the 1 title for sure. The all alloy body does come with some weight, though. Just want to mention one thing I didn't know until I got the camera: 1V is capable of storing the exposure info of 100 rolls (says the manual, I'm not sure how many exposures in total), which you'll need a special cable and software (EOS Link Software ES-E1) to export.

  • Excerpt: All the good things I'd heard about this camera were true. As a 5D Mark II & 5D Mark III user I find it easy to use and am thrilled with the results. I've been wanting a film camera for quite awhile & am very pleased with my decision to go with the 1V.

Truly a Flagship!

  • Excerpt: This latest Canon is a great 35mm. Solid body, excellent seals, and ergonomic feel and function. While some say "Film is Dead", I believe that as long as Canon makes a 35mm SLR of this quality, and 35mm film available, there are still some great photos just out there waiting. Would definitely buy this product again.

A work of art

31 May 2012
  • Excerpt: When shooting my first roll I was impressed with the build quality that rivals a famous German company, the ergonomics and how easy this film body is to use. When I had my first few rolls developed it blew my mind. A lot of people say that the camera doesn't matter- I believe there is a point to that argument but it is overstated. This camera body coupled with your favorite film and Canon L-Series lenses takes away any equipment excuse you might make.

Perfect film camera

sinar444, B&H Photo
7 December 2011
  • Excerpt: I went backwards in time. First I had a Canon 1DS MKII (and it works perfectly 5 years after the purchase) then I thought about a possible backup camera. It was the Canon 1V. Since then I use the film camera a bit more than the digital one because I like the film feeling better than the digital.

No Regrets

Joe the Limper, B&H Photo
6 October 2011
  • Excerpt: I obtained my first camera by winning it on the carnival midway at the American Indian Exposition in 1959. There've been a few cameras between then and now, but never one of this stature. I justified its cost by noting that it is the last film camera I will ever buy, and the best of the breed by any reasonable definition. It will allow me to enjoy using film (especially B&W) and it will someday belong to my daughter, who shares my interest in photography.
