Summary: I didn't buy one of these units, but one was loaned to me while our central AC system was being repaired. We felt that at least our living room might stay a bit cooler in the process since the outside temps were between 95-105 degrees.
Summary: In April 2011, I purchased a Sunpentown (SPT) air conditioner for $450. I ended up not using it last summer and stored it, unopened in its box, until a month ago. Right out of the box, it didn't work.
Summary: I had the same problem as others - it simply did not cool the room. Returned it. considering it's 12000 BTU, I'd expect a lot more. Turns out that Sunpentown is a fake brand name slapped onto a chinese company.
Summary: After looking at numerous options I selected this unit to provide cooling for a 300 square foot Florida room which runs around 95 degrees during summer afternoons. After four years of reliable service, this unit is still capable of lowering room temperature at least 10 deg on its' own and more with...

Summary: Very powerful and cools well. Pretty loud when you first turn it on (and I love white noise) so I'd recommend turning it on before you're ready for bed so it will be at the lower (and quieter) fan setting (if on auto) once room is cooler. I love the timer and remote control options. Easy to set up.
Summary: I bought this product in the summer of 07. I live in a room over the garage that gets the brunt of the sun and therefor reaches 78-80 degrees even with the AC on. At first the unit after running for a couple hours would drop the temp to 72 on a summer day but no lower.
Summary: I'am a certified EPA HVAC Tech that chooses A/C and Electronics as a hobby only because I make more income by other means and the reason why I bought this unit is strickly as a backup means for hurricane aftermath.
Summary: I bought this unit in June 06, so I'm on my 3rd year of almost constant summer usage. The unit is a little noisy (about the loudness of some fans set to their highest setting), but that doesn't really bother me because it cools the room like it is supposed to, and I hate heat more than noise :).
Summary: I've had this Sunpentown portable AC for nearly 2 summers and so far I have no complaints. It has worked flawlessly. My family and I live in a 2nd floor apartment unit that bakes during summer days, and the walls radiate heat well into the night, so having an AC running in the bedroom at night is a...
