Generally Please With Performance

Henry S., Newegg
11 September 2010
  • Summary: Inspect the unit carefully before accepting it from UPS. Open the packaging and make sure there is no damage to the unit. Although the outside cardboard was dented, the unit was undamaged.
  • Pros: Aesthetically pleasing design. Reasonably quiet. Effective cooling. I purchased a second one for a large room.
  • Cons: One unit develped a resonant enclosure rattle at times, that could sometimes be quieted by jamming a piece of folded paper between two enclosure seams. Although rated at 12000 BTUs, the cooling was just a little more effective (but quieter) than an older Maytag rated at 8000 BTUs. Also it require...

Same comments as other reviewers

Justin D., Newegg
21 July 2010
  • Summary: First unit shipped out was returned to Newegg due to a missing delivery label. The second unit shipped came in a box that looked like it had been through a war. As the previous reviewer mentioned, there was no box or additional padding surrounding the air conditioner box.
  • Pros: Quiet and effectively cools down my bedroom. The mega cool function is nice (albeit noisy). Seems to be well-made. Good looking unit compared to others I have seen out there. Plasmacluster function does a nice job of purifying the air. I have been running the unit for 3 days straight and still ha...
  • Cons: Installing this on casement windows is a pain (an inherent problem with portable air conditioners, not this Sharp). Instruction manual was confusing for installation process as drawings were not completely accurate. This thing is huge and heavy. Mega cool option makes the plastic on the unit shak...

Watch for shipping damage

Dan K., Newegg
16 July 2010
  • Pros: After all my research this is one of the nicest air conditioner units out there, both in features and style.
  • Cons: As soon as I opened the package I found one of the wheels broke off during shipping. The box was intact but looked pretty abused. Newegg ships this air conditioner in the original Sharp retail box with no additional protection around it, other than the flimsy styrofoam that Sharp puts in some are...

Purchased two of these. Both were broken on arrival.

  • Excerpt: Simple enough. I purchased two of these because I had a good experience in the past with a Sharp a/c. Both were broken upon arrival. I have little hope for Sharp to do anything about it based on the reviews here : http: //www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16896111212

Dead on Arrival

Andrew C., Newegg
1 July 2010
  • Pros: Good looking unit. seemed to cool quickly in the 10 seconds that it ran.
  • Cons: Died 10 seconds after I turned it on. Newegg is absolutely no help. Sharp warranty service stinks.

Great product

MARILYN S., Newegg
29 June 2010
  • Summary: As others have stated, know that a portable is not the same as a window AC, but that's why I upped the BTU's and spent the money .. good unit I'd recommend it.
  • Pros: This thing is a beast, it gets the job done .. I've not gotten a reading on true amps and all that, but half these reviews don't even make it out of the box, so to speak, so just wanted to say, it's plugged in and spewing fresh cold angel air ... ordered on a Sunday night, dropped off on a Tuesda...
  • Cons: again, this AC isn't a mickey mouse unit, it weights over 100lbs and is at least 3 feet high,

Bat quality of accessories used for thsi Conditioner

Xingjie W., Newegg
29 May 2010
  • Summary: Except the materal used for accessories expecially fliexible duct hose (need to spend $75 every two yesrs), this is great conditioner...
  • Pros: it looks great, truly quiet, make coll air and it is easy to install, operate and move...
  • Cons: My parents have used this item for past 3 years seldom in Seattle area. Start from last year, the Flexible Duct Hose started to be broken. I thought they might damage it, so I asked them to use duct tape to wrap the hose at broken area to continue to use. Last week, I got chance to take look of t...

  • Excerpt: The Sharp a/c was ok, but I had trouble setting the tube just right in the window. I live in a small mobile and floor space is at a preimium. I didnt have alot of room to manuver. I sold it to a couple with a Hugh house that just need to cool one little room. It worked good for them.

  • Excerpt: the all new sharp is a very sharp air conditioner. It is not like all the other air systems it is better. this would be a great system to take on a road trip to somewhere. It blows out a lot of cool air. I would recommend this.
