Summary: Interesting to read these reviews. I have this fan, model FV-08VQ3, in two bathrooms and it is not the quiet purr that I've been reading. It isn't loud either, but I can definitely hear it when it is running. I've had both fans for less than five years and one already needs to be replaced as it has stopped working.
Summary: I am an electrician, and first installed the Panasonic when I helped a friend build his house in 2006. Installed 3 in his house, was very impressed-his are still just as quiet today. Have installed 8 more for family and friends (and myself) since then, and am so impressed each time at the quality of construction/materials. If you are doubtful, take another brand out of the box at a retailer and look at it/feel it. There's no comparison.
Panasonic WhisperGreen Continuous Operation Bathroom Fan with Motion Sensor and Lights - FV-08VKML3

Summary: It is so quiet you have to pause to hear it but you can definitely feel the air moving. The light is nice and bright so I don't have to add more lighting to the room like I was planning to before I got this fan. The electrician said it was a bit of a challenge to install it so the cost to install it was more than the cost of the fan, but it was worth it to me. I have already recommended it to friends.
Panasonic WhisperGreen Continuous Operation Bathroom Fan with Motion Sensor FV-08VKM3

Summary: I set the speed parameter based on the size of my house and the fan could be heard running in multiple rooms when on 'low' speed. I set it to the lowest setting and it resolved the issue. On occasion the motion detector turns on the high speed when nobody has entered the room...not sure why this is happening.
Panasonic WhisperSense Bathroom Fan With Motion/ Humidity Sensors & Lights - FV-08VQCL5
8 November 2011
Summary: This fan is super quiet! My husband was able to install the fan but we needed to hire an electrician to install a second set of wires to have the fan run independently of the light. If you don't mind them running together then they can run on the same wires. If that is the case though, you may as well not spend the extra money on the motion sensor and humidity control. The fan seems to run a long time after being set off by motion or when someone takes a shower.
