Summary: We bought this for an apartment on the top floor of an old building with alot of south facing windows. The AC is intended to cool a large room (kitchen, living, dining room). The building has rules about window AC units (only allowing placement in certain windows), so we read the reviews and chose this unit. We keep the shades low in the summer to try and reduce the heat load.
Excerpt: I had this product for like about 2 years and a half, Is a really good AC, it cools the room really fast, a little noisy but nothing to worry about. He just breack down, just the AC, I can still use the fan, but I am buying again, it is a really good stuff.
Pros: Accurate Temperature Controls, Cools the Whole Room, Easy Window Installation
Excerpt: I bought this Unit 3 years ago, and am now throwing it out. If dragging it up 5 flights of stairs hadn't been such a pain I should of returned it immediately. Far too loud, especially considering the minimal power of cooling. It just bugs me so much that I had to warn people about this before dragging it down the stairs. Make the Salesman at J&R turn off the other air cons to get a true sense of the noise. You Cannot watch TV with this in the room.
Cons: Hard To Clean Filter, Little Cooling Power, Noisey, Poor Build Quality, Vibrations And Fan Noise
Excerpt: We bought this to supplement the AC to a finished room over our gargage and near attic space. Our central air just never seemed to get this room cool enough. This unit does the job. It was easy to install. We only use it when the room is occupied (occasional use). It is not any noisier than a hotel room unit.
Summary: We have done a great deal of research on portable AC units and we have learned a few valuable facts - that these units should have dual exhaust lines, that they should have a warranty, that they circulate truly cool or cold air and that they should not be too large. This unit does or has all of these attributes.
Summary: I bought two Friedrich window A/C units (10,000 btu) along with this portable unit, so I have been able to make direct comparisons. In short, the portable unit cools well, but is about three times as loud as the window units. If you don't mind the noise, then the advantages of this unit are that it is very easy to install, it looks much better from the outside of the house, and it cools very efficiently.
