Great sound, good quality, but don't lose the manual.

Summary: After doing a lot of research and reading many reviews, I decided to go with the receiver. If I have to upgrade, I'll be getting another Yamaha for sure. All of the channels have the same high-quality dacs and amps and they sound great. The auto-calibration feature works well. I couldn't ask for better as far as sound quality. The negatives are relatively minor so I'm a little torn about docking a star. But...
Summary: Bought this Yamaha RX-V863 receiver in 2010, after about 2 years it started turning off by itself. At first it only happened occasionally then progressively it became more frequent. I called Yamaha and they told me the receiver would need to be repaired and the closest repair shop was about 1 hour away. I live in the Bay Area so I would think they should have more than 1 repair location.
Summary: This replaced an older model yamaha. The setup worked faster on the older model, on this model I had to do it three times before it worked. Another thing the volume was much lower I used to have it set at -32 on this model its playing at -23 but it still sounds great and glad I bought it.
Summary: Had this receiver for 2 years and 4 months. Watching TV and the picture went out. Yamaha support was terrible. Took it to repair shop and they said the mother board was out and needed a new one for $450. missed it being under warranty by 4 months. Very disappointing, will not buy another Yamaha again.
Summary: Upgraded from a Yamaha HTR and have been overall disappointed. This may be the last Yamaha I own. Issues: Amplifiers are extremely low (almost have to run at 0DB...) Have 5x120W RMS speakers... HDMI changing has all sorts of issues; occasionally I will have shut everything down to get it to re-sync correctly and provide video HDMI is only 1.3A. No 3D TV support...
Summary: Very happy with this receiver. Sound is CRYSTAL clear. Interface is very easy to use though display is not state of the art. I love the optical and HDMI inputs (though I would not mind seeing 5 rather than 3 HDMI inputs). The only thing limiting the quality of sound you receive is the quality of the speakers you pair with this device. Like the upscaling feature though this device is not compatible with 3d upscaling.
Summary: First of all, I love this receiver for when it has worked. I would not buy Yamaha products because the customer service is horrible. My receiver first broke about 2 weeks after I started using it. Yamaha made me pay $60 to mail it off to Atlanta for repairs. After a month of it being gone, I got it back and it broke again two weeks later. I have to argue with them on the phone every time I call that my information is in the computer and that I have called before.
Summary: Let me first start off by saying that I have a severe hearing loss & and tinnitus in my right ear, caused while in the military 20 years ago. But I love listen to high quailty music and watching movies with that has DTS-HD 5.1 MASTER AUDIO. I have had this Yamaha RX V863 for more than 2 years. Had Pioneer and Sony Receiver before this one. So far this unit has been great. I have a complete Infinity Beta Speaker system with Infinity PS-212 400 watt Subwoofer.
