Summary: This home theater receiver has every kind of hookup imaginable. It's been a work horse for me since 2008; I don't ever turn it off. If I'm not watching TV or movies, then it's always playing satellite radio throughout the house; day and through the night. I would highly recommend.
Summary: I bought this Yamaha RX-V861 receiver for my home theater set-up in my new vacation home. I have the same receiver in my primary residence and have had it for about 5 years and still love it. Plenty of power, HDMI and sound options galore. You can't beat it for this price!
Sound quality at it's best for a dedicated enthusiasts.

Summary: Using as a multi room 9.1 system. When set up correctly this receiver couldn't sound better. I am using it with the extra two front speakers. These are called presence speakers for front surround effects that go deeper in to sound tracks.
Summary: After researching many receivers, I decided to give the Yamaha RX-V861BL a try. I have had great results with the Yamaha guitar I purchased some years ago. Yamaha receivers received great reviews, so I felt that I nothing to loose by trying one. I was not disappointed. This baby knocked my socks off. It is fairly easy to install and simple to operate with plenty of ports to accept all of my electronic equipment. After hooking it up, I watched a Blu-Ray Movie.
Summary: Had Yamaha receivers in home theaters in 2 homes. In this case, our needs were two independent zones (one inside and one outside), an iPOD connection with OSD, and a XM older-type (not Sirius) connection. My old Yamaha had a built-in XM tuner, but these are hard to find, so I was OK with the external minituner (need to purchse). This receiver had everything that we wanted and was being sold at an amazing price.
Summary: My husband bought this receiver; however, I have really been enjoying it. The sound is absolutely fantastic!!!! You can hear every little tinkle of sound. Was listening to some orchestra music and I've never heard sounds like this receiver put out. I felt like I was sitting right in front of the orchestra listening. And movies are just as good. You can't go wrong with this receiver.
Summary: Great product with auto setup! The remote is fairly easy to use and if you choose to manually set up the speaker output, distance, etc. it is easy to do so. The wiring set up is simple and most importantly, it does output great quality! Highly recommend this unit!
Summary: The unit is reported to be a top rated one and it probably is. It will do so much, but the instructions are not written for the novis. Hooking up the speakers is easy. It is after that when the information becomes confusing. Hopefully I will soon get the surround sound working properly and the extra expense of this unit will be realized.
Great receiver if you don't need lots of HDMI inputs

Summary: Great sound quality - warm, like other Yamaha receivers. Lots of tailoring options for the right sound. I have mine coupled with a full 7.1 system using Boston Acoustics speakers and a Velodyne subwoofer in a dedicated theater room. The sound is fantastic. I am using the receiver for HDMI switching from my Sony BluRay player and Mitsubishi HDTV. Also have a Wii attached and am switching conventional video through the receiver to output on the HDMI to the TV.
Summary: This receiver has been great, have it hooked up to blu-ray, HD television, dish, all great, then tonight, in the middle of a movie, it quit with a big spark and burning smell, and then of course won't work. Now what! Would love to hear any ideas on what to do now. Unplugged everything from it and from the Monster surge protector. Only the Yamaha receiver had a problem. Everything else was still going - tv, blu-ray. I'm so mad!
