Summary: I installed a home theatre system for a friend recently and my choice of receivers was the Yamaha RXV-765. The receiver was 4 months old when the HDMI board went out. I called to find a repair center and the closest was Atlanta, GA, about 600 miles from my SW Florida home. Return shipping had to be paid along with a deposit of $69.00. A week or two later I was told that Yamaha's warranty only covered items purchased at authorized dealers, not from eBay stores.
Summary: I was really excited to get this unit. It was my first new receiver in years and based on the excellent reviews I thought I had found the perfect receiver. Unfortunately there is a drawback I can't get around, it does not play well with TiVo HD. Every time I change the channel on the TiVo the Yamaha re-seeks the audio source which results in a digital "chirp." I called both TiVo and Yamaha, who both blamed the problem on each other and pretty much told me "too bad.
Summary: I was surprised to find that there was no way to connect my Shaw Direct Sattelite Receiver DVI output. Even with the DVI output converted to HDMI and sound bypass I could not get it going. Other than that issue I have not discovered any shortcomings.
