Great Audio, Bad HDMI

Jeff W., Newegg
15 November 2010
  • Summary: Stupidly, I didn't think to exchange the unit within the Newegg RMA period, so I don't know if my issues are a faulty unit or just bad HDMI implementation. I'll likely just live with it though, as I'd rather not deal with Yamaha's repair process.
  • Pros: Good build quality, great sound quality, and decently simple configuration procedure. The YPAO auto setup does pretty well for a baseline setup, and sounds great after just a little tweaking (mainly pulling the sub levels up substantially). Sounds great in my family room with my Velodyne sub and ...
  • Cons: Manual isn't the greatest, and the remote is old school. It isn't a learning remote, but one that needs to be programmed using codes. Biggest issue though is the HDMI implementation. I don't know if it is a switching issue, or HDCP handshake issue, but it just does not reliably switch between HDM...

Decent sound but somewhat disappointing…

Stephen W., Newegg
5 November 2010
  • Summary: Overall the receiver is decent but not great. The lack of Svideo and the poor 1080p up conversion of analog sources really is disappointing. I upgraded from an old Kenwood VR 707 expecting to be blown away and I wasn't. The sound is marginally better at best.
  • Pros: Nice variety and plenty of video inputs (NO SVIDEO). There's also a composite video jack on the front but strangely no HDMI. Video up conversion of composite and component video to 1080p. This can be quite finicky and funky though; I'll explain later. Excellent variety of sound options from 7ch E...
  • Cons: No Svideo input. This doesn't sound like much but if you’re an avid video game collector or like to have a variety of electronics both old and new then the lack of a Svideo jack is going to hurt. Poor video up conversion; really disappointing. I have an SNES, NES, Genesis and a N64 that the recei...

It is a good receiver unless it needs repair.

Charles E. Bradshaw "Wire Guy", Amazon
14 October 2010
  • Summary: I installed a home theatre system for a friend recently and my choice of receivers was the Yamaha RXV-765. The receiver was 4 months old when the HDMI board went out. I called to find a repair center and the closest was Atlanta, GA, about 600 miles from my SW Florida home.

An almost good product, faulty YPAO

Anonymous, Newegg
26 September 2010
  • Summary: If there was a manual way to advance beyond the error a it would have got a 4 star rating.
  • Pros: I set this up in about 4 hours. Most of the time was taken up with connecting my 6.1 speaker wiring. The speaker terminals are very close together. I will definitely purchase banana plugs to make connections easier. That done, and with some reconfiguring of my PS3 and cable box connections I was ...
  • Cons: Then I tried to use the YPAO to set up the speakers. While the little display showed the map of all my speakers including a single rear channel and a single subwoofer, the YPAO could not detect the Left Surround speaker; It gave an error at the sound pressure equalization pass and would not go on...

Sub-par sound quality

Ila l., Newegg
17 July 2010
  • Summary: The sound quality on my old Onkyo 606 was better then Yamaha 765 but the video up conversion is better then the Onkyo. If it wasn't for the confusing settings and different terms used, this system would be much easier to set up.
  • Pros: Lots of connections Great video up conversion Neat and clean lay out on the back and front
  • Cons: Sub-par sound quality. Every setting makes everything sound a little more muffled then they should be. Complicated settings. There are a lot of settings to chose from, most of which are preset ones. But whats worse is the terms they use for many of the better settings are not conventional terms t...

TiVoHD Owners Beware

Frank Hamilton, Amazon
12 September 2009
  • Summary: I was really excited to get this unit. It was my first new receiver in years and based on the excellent reviews I thought I had found the perfect receiver. Unfortunately there is a drawback I can't get around, it does not play well with TiVo HD.

Competent amp that's just "OK"

IamAlex, Amazon
11 September 2009
  • Summary: Not one of Yamaha's best products (I have owned several). Overall a great amp for basic use, but lacking once you really want to set up a great home theater system. PROS: Auto set up feature is nice and easy to use 4 presets allows easy switching between devices and sound settings remote is clear...

User Review

Yandex
31 July 2010

Super Gerät mit DTS HD und mehr ...

Klaus Meinders, Amazon
29 September 2009
