Summary: This has been my Home theater receiver since 2007 and its been going strong and sounds fantastic. Its only downfall is not having enough hdmi inputs, but back around 06 and 07, four hdmi inputs seemed like enough. How times have changed. I have recently upgraded to an Rx-A830 but that one is in the Bedroom. I plan on upgrading this receiver within a year. If you can find one its still a great receiver especially for a bedroom or downstairs setup.
Summary: remote is lacking in features but receiver is great. Very powerful and great sound quality. I love the Scenes feature, I own two of these receivers and recomend them highly. I recomend buying a Logitech harmony 1100 remote.
Summary: Nice easy set up. Worked very well with my clients BOSE speakers. Good Zone two output. I had installed two Denons before this Yamaha and both denons did not like the bose speakers. I've read somewhere that Yamaha has a circuit board friendly to Bose.
Summary: So far, it has surpassed all my expectatations. It's great being able to switch to different zone areas, especially the zone next to the pool in the backyard. I would recommend this home theatre receiver to anyone who wants high quality at an affordable price.
Summary: This receiver was much deeper than the old Technics it replaced, so I had to relocate it to the center cabinet, on the top shelf above our very nice Samsung lcd TV (<3 Samsung). Running the wires was, by far, the hardest part with the setup at my parent's house, because they have this big, fancy, wooden set of entertainment cabinets pressed within 8 inches of the back wall, so it is tricky moving a lot of cables around back there.
Summary: I replaced my 10 year old Receiver also a YAMAHA as I had upgraded my system to an HD TV and DVD player with HDMI connections. The receiver has many features I really enjoy, I would Highly recommend it to everyone. I also listen to classical music and it preforms beautifully on music as well. Easy connections. Although I would suggest using banana plugs for the speaker connections. Don't know why mfg's don't include them in their products.
I really like this receiver for what it does and what it does NOT do...

Summary: I picked up this receiver as part of my recent HT upgrade. Samsung HP-T5084 plasma television, Ascend 340SE speakers, Infinity Subwoofer, Oppo 980H DVD player. The Yamaha RX-V661 receiver balances perfectly with all of my components. Sound is wonderful, the unit is easy to use and set up (the YPAO works superb). For the money I paid I am very pleased with it's performance. I am also pleased with what it DOES NOT DO. This unit passes HDMI video AS IS.
Summary: I too had fantasized about owning a system of high calibre, and this one fits the bill. I enjoy my ipod, and now can use through my system! HDMI is fantastic, so easy to set up!! It's also convenient for using XM radio. But the proof is in the pudding, and it's the quality sound that everyone will appreciate, as well as the ease of use!! Thanks Yamaha!!
Summary: I was looking at receivers for months trying to make sense of it all. I was set on one of the similarly priced Onkyos when an AV friend of mine came out of nowhere and recommended this Yamaha V661. I love it. Everything was very easy to use and setup, and there are tons of customization options. I couple this with some Klipsch Quintet IIIs and a custom sub, sound is fantastic. I love the fact that I was able to program my own customized input names.
