Summary: Very nice high quality receiver but the remote control is prehistoric. Can't beleive Yamaha would include such a cheap and old fashioned remote to control such a high tech piece. The range on it also is unsatisfactory. They should have included a laser to be sure you are pointed directly @ it or it does not work.Very slow to respond with the volume up and down. Overall pleased with receiver, give the remote back to Fred G.Sanford, and the "G" stands for GARBAGE !
Summary: I love this receiver! There are many functions on this system relating to TV HDMI which I don't use and can not speak to. However, if you are looking for quality sound for a reasonable price this is your baby!
Great sound, lots of features - Bad user interface

Summary: First of, this is a great reciever. Great sound and plenty of features for the price. You can't go wrong there. The bad part is, be prepaired to spend a couple hours with the manual and the other bad part is, the manual is as complicated to read as the interface! I did however figure it all out. Once you get your "Scenes" set up, you are good to go.
Summary: I primarily bought this unit for 1. The close out price. 2. For the two hdmi inputs with one hdmi output and 3. For the phonograph connectors (I have a few albums:) Older models don't have hdmi and many newer models don't have phonograph connectors. (But I believe their manuals, available online, might suggest how to connect. So if that is a concern with other models, you might check for a manual.) I agree with others about this remote. It is not... comfortable.
Summary: I bought Yamaha products many years ago and was very pleased with quality and performance. I think that holds true this time too. Had some shipping issues to Alaska and the unit appeared to have taken some "hits" as there is a small (barely noticeable) crease in the bezel where some ape dropped it. The unit functions flawlessly so it is pretty tough. The sound quality is excellent.
Summary: Very nice receiver, but the operation of it requires almost a degree in engineering (which I have, but still had to study the manual - which of course engineers don't like to do). The sound is great and it has more features than you can imagine once you figure them out.
Summary: I've been using this receiver for about a week now. The auto-setup was great! The auto-setup even noticed that I accidentally reversed the wires for one of my speakers. I haven't seen this very helpful feature in other receivers. It has the video and audio performance that you would expect for this price range. I have one complaint about this receiver. When using the remote control, you need one button to turn it on, and it requires a different button to turn it off.

Summary: I bought the RXV661 Receiver from Best Buy on Sale for $395 which provided an extra $100 for speakers. I sound tested the unit at a Best Buy and it blew away the Sony's priced in a similar price range. The bass on the unit isn't as strong as I expected buy I only have it turned up half way. Other than that the JBL speakers and this receiver combination brought to life Football games and Fight Club.
Summary: Bottom line: Superior sound, great value. Some design issues that do NOT affect sound; For example, video in/outs relegated to the right hand back of the receiver. Audios on the left, instead of the tradition yellow, white and red RCA inputs grouped together. Also, don't even think about wrapping the hard wire around the speaker prongs - they're too close to make that happen; Invest in banana plugs instead.
Summary: I use this receiver with my Bose Acoustimass home theater system and it sounds great. I'm sure there are some features which I have yet to learn to use, but for what I'm using it for, its great. Pros: -strong sound output (this thing can crank) -easy to use (remove is intuitive) -was not overly expensive -has HDMI connections Cons: -physically larger than I imagined -setting up speaker wire was tough, but I think thats with any receiver of this caliber I wish my TV...
