Summary: Yamaha RX-V659BL 7.1 Channel Digital Home Theater Receiver (Black) A very good Audio/Video Receiver/Amplifier. The Sound Field Program capability coupled with the Optimizer Microphone allows for very unique sound effects and setting the stereo center for any point in a room. It will compensate for mis-matched speaker systems and can also emulate 7.1 surround sound with only two speakers.
Summary: Not knowing a whole lot about audio features, I bought this based on research, reviews, in-stock, and price. It has thoroughly transformed my families entertaining experience. Although extremely lite on documentation for a novice, nevertheless, I was able to put on "Kipper the Dog" for the kids in about an hour. I would have given 5 stars, but for the manual. Otherwise, a quality piece of hardware!
Summary: I read the reviews on this product and they seemed good enough so I bought it .It worked for about two weeks than that is it .One day for no reason whatsoever i went to turn it on and it stopped working. It simply cut out and shut off INSTANTLY when i turned it on. Before you say surge too it worked 12 hours before and it was sunny out since and besides I have a surge protector.I wasted about two hours checking speaker wires and connections ,,kindof in disbelief that I...
Summary: I've installed countless numbers of these amps, and if you want to save money but still want 7.1 channel surround, look no further than the RX-V659. They don't provide the great sound quality of more expensive units, obviously, but they have a decent number of digital inputs and it does a decent job of video switching. Look at the RX-V661 too. It is the new model of 659 and costs just a tad more if not the same.

Summary: I am an A/V novice, and this is how/why I bought this receiver: I originally bought it while looking for a 6.1 receiver in the $400.00 range. Best B** had a Pioneer that was THX certified for about $475. I had them put a rain check on it, then went to another store to listen to what they had (Best B** has a new policy of 'upselling' by sending any customer who is interested in mid-level audio to a 'specialist' who wants to unload Denon etc.
Summary: I only use this for Audio and it does a geat job of 7.1 and also the abiity to play in stereo through all speakers not just the front left and right. The only reason for the 4 star rating is that it does not do high def video switching.
