Summary: I finally upgraded from my old Yamaha RX-V2090 7.1 receiver. The old one still sounds great, but the new one fits in with the rest of my 3D home theater setup better, since it has the current audio formats and HDMI. My wife loves the network music options as well. I wanted all of the speaker connections to be banana plugs, so I chose this model over the less expensive lower models. The setup was very easy, and the automatic speaker setup with the mic worked great.
Summary: This is a top notch receiver for people on a budget. Add a wireless bridge ($20) for net options like Pandora, stream from your computer, or choose from hundreds of pre-set Internet radio stations. The A/B channel switching is simple and comes in handy when I'm in the backyard and want to blast tunes back there instead of in my living room. Great receiver, highly recommended!
Summary: I really don't hate it but when it worked properly it was a fabulous receiver but I haven't owned it that long and already the HDMI ports have failed and that was the main reason that I bought it. I need to send it back for warranty work and get the HDMI ports fixed. Too many HDMI failures in other reviews also. A few days ago I emailed Yamaha about this problem and the answer was to do a factory reset.
Summary: I'm a pretty big fan of Yamaha receivers. They are focused on sound quality, quality, and simplicity. The look is a tad boring, but my Yamahas are all still in service. Haven't had the same experience with Pioneer brand receivers. I love other products from Pioneer, but had a lot of bad luck with sound quality and service life of their receivers.
Summary: Great sound, good power, easy to connect, remote is easy to use also, I love it. I'm not a sound master like most people on here apparently, so I cant tell you technical things, but I will say I'm very picky about my sound and speakers, bass/treble, etc. but Finally after over a decade and 3 different set ups, I have my "home theater" sound like a theater. I can't even turn the sound up all the way, I get about 75% and it's super loud, crisp, and clear!
Works well enough to be new. It's astonishing that it's refurbished.

Summary: I've had this receiver for about 7 months now, and it has yet to disappoint. AirPlay works flawlessly, the sound is fantastic, the plethora of inputs completely exceed my needs, and it just looks good. I don't expect this performance from a refurbished device. I expect it from a new one. The only minor annoyance is that it sometimes finds it's way back to the "SciFi" equalizer setting, which isn't great.
Already owned my 1st for a year / Has 5 HDMI inputs

Summary: I purchased this for my parents to serve as the hub for their television mix of components. I chose this Yamaha model because I have owned this same model for a year as well as two other Yamaha receivers which are on the high end spectrum retailing 5 times the price of this one. All my Yamaha products have been reliable, are heavy, and sound great. I also own 2 Sony STR-DH740 models similar to this Yamaha model.
