Summary: I was thinking about this model or the Onkyo NR535. They are priced similarly but decided finally to go with the Yamaha over the Onkyo as there seems to quality/longevity issues with Onkyo receivers in general. I've owned Yamahas before in the past and have never had any issues so decided not to change.
Excerpt: I've had an problem to setup the Audio Return Channel (ARC) for my Sony TV, that lasted about one day, but suddenly the TV recognize the AV receiver and everything is working above than expected. There are a lot of HDMI ports and the sound quality is awesome. I've searched for others brands, but there are always a lack of one or other functionality. The RX-V477 has all codecs, all functionalities together, and you don't need any aditional device to work with.
Pros: Accurate Controls, Easy To Set Up, Great Sound Quality
Summary: Chose Onkyo TX-NR535 first. Difficult to set up, terrible sound, could not make the HDMI inputs keep working after 3 days. Returned to retailer and traded for Yamaha RX-V477 Running perfect in 15 minutes of setup. Sound is awesome, can really hear the separation of channels. BASS YES!!!!! Airplay works great from I Phone I pad and MacBook Pro. When using Airplay you don't even have to turn the receiver on, it just start playing, AWESOME. Remote easy to use.
Pros: Accurate Controls, Easy To Set Up, Good Power Output, Good Remote Control, Great Sound Quality
