Summary: In general I like Yamaha and if it was not for the HDMI issue I would have no issue with this receiver. However the HDMI is the heart of the unit for my purposes (and most others I assume) so I cannot in good conscience give more than 2 eggs given the failure I had.
Pros: Using HDMI to drive my home system Blue-ray, Cable, PS3. Easy setup, Airplay works well with the network attachment, Nice sound quality. Drives my Polk home 5.1 system w/ no complaints. Good warranty coverage. Good phone support.
Cons: Major HDMI board issues. Unit worked intermittently after first month and then went out all together. Had to send to Yamaha repair shop to replace HDMI board and was told this is common on these units from Yamaha. Very concerned this will happen again soon and be w/o warranty coverage.
Summary: This receiver in my opinion is low standard for a Yamaha. I have the RX-V793 receiver that I have had for several years, I wanted to move up to the newest features. I was very, very disappointed in the sound of the RX-V473, it also does not come with extra plugins in the rear to hook up other...
Summary: I spent too much time swapping out speakers thinking they were the problem. It just seems like the receiver just isn't as good as the older one I have. I will continue to search for a good configuration, and will update this review if I figure it out.
Pros: Easy to setup. Nice features.
Cons: Can't seem to get good volume out of the receiver. I have to turn it to 30dB to watch a movie. I have an older Yamaha that fills the room with sound at 40dB with smaller speakers.
Pros: Plenty of HDMI inputs, Control from smartphone, Setup tone and mic.
Cons: No conversion from component to hdmi converter so have to have two outputs to tv, have had to reset and setup unit twice due to no volume on power up, no tech support the level one sent to level two and they never called me
Summary: UPDATE 03/18/2013: * This receiver hangs my iPod Nano after playing only a few songs. I have to let the battery go down all the way on the iPod before it will "reboot". * The problem with the cable box continues. I've decided this receiver is no longer on my "recommended" list.
Pros: HDMI inputs all come into the receiver and then out to the TV. The receiver controls everything automatically. Switching the remote to dvd turns on the dvd player for you. No need to mess with programming the remotes, everything seems to be handled through the HDMI network. Changing the volume on...
Cons: But... hdmi is already slow when switching cable channels. Changing channels now is twice as slow as the receiver is in the middle of things. And worst of all, the receiver looses the video when changing resolutions, ie 720p to 480i or 1080i to 480i. Only way to recover the video is to power cycl...
Summary: Je suis déçu.
