Yamaha RX-V473 Receiver Review

21 March 2013
  • Conclusion: The RX-V473, like any receiver at this price point, has its good and bad points. I did like the extra power that allowed for some headroom in music and movie playback, the ease of use for Apple devices and the modern-looking control app. But at the same time, I was disappointed with the supplied remote control, the lack of wireless networking, the overly simple onscreen menus and it could use a few more HDMI inputs and outputs.

PC Magazine
5 November 2012
  • Conclusion: The Yamaha RX-V473 holds up the company's tradition of solid-performing home theater receivers, but its iPod and AirPlay connectivity still needs work.
  • Pros: Powerful amplifiers. Robust selection of DSP modes. Supports AirPlay and iPod integration. Wi-Fi-based iPhone and iPad app looks great and is easy to use.
  • Cons: Dated menu graphics. Networking via wired Ethernet only. Amplifier sound slightly trails the competition. No native Pandora or SiriusXM support.

Yamaha's RX-V473 receiver is solid, but...

21 October 2012
  • Summary: The Yamaha RX-V473 is a serviceable 5.1 AV receiver, but given that it has only four HDMI inputs, competing models offer a better value.
  • Pros: The Yamaha RX-V473 has built-in networking functionality, including AirPlay and Internet radio. Its sound quality is solid with both music and movies, and it can be controlled with a smartphone app that's available for iOS and Android.
  • Cons: Nearly every competing receiver offers more HDMI inputs at this price level. The included remote is difficult to use, and the UI looks painfully dated.

2 April 2012
