Summary: There are plenty of reviews here that describe all the features of this receiver, so I will not go into that. I upgraded from a DSP-A3090. Well, shortly after the warranty on the 3900 expired, the power relays started shutting the unit off randomly. Now, I can barely get it to turn on. This was a known issue with earlier firmware, however I just updated the firmware to 1.21 (was supposed to be fixed in 1.07) and it still does it and is getting worse.
Summary: Yamaha RX-V3900BL 7.1-Channel Network Home Theater Receiver (Black) I have bought at least 2 Yamaha Receivers and have never had a problem until now. I bought the Yamaha RX-3900BL 7.1 receiver because of all the features and because of Yamaha reliability. When I got the receiver in October 2008, I noticed that the HDMI port for Cable/Sat did not transmit audio. The video was fine. I did a work around and continued using the receiver.
Summary: I replaced the Yamaha RX-V3800 with the RX-V3900 so I could get on-screen graphics over HDMI, and because I wanted HD Radio. I did the latest (as of 12/4/2008) firmware update (1.04, I believe). Whenever this unit turns on, it sends out some handshaking signal to every HDMI source which reverts them all to their MINIMUM RESOLUTION! In my case, my Motorola Verizon FIOS box is set to 480p EVERY time I turn on my receiver.
