Summary: Replacement in the sense that we had hurricane style rains for weeks straight and my roof leaked directly above my home theater equipment - of course! I digress, this was offered as a replacement by the insurance company from another Yamaha receiver from at least 7 years ago. This has been a wonderful receiver and although the remote doesn't look as cool as the old "silver surfer" with a front flap, it's far more usable.
Summary: I bought the RX-V3800 to take advantage of the new HD lossless audio formats, particularly Dolby True HD. The RX-V3800 has truly superior audio processing and, when watching HD-DVD on my Toshiba A35, the results are impressive. Of course, that's like saying my Ford Edsel handles like a dream. For those of you who had the foresight NOT to invest in a doomed technology, it's a little tougher to take advantage of True HD.
GREAT Multi-Purpose Receiver for HDMI, Internet and LAN

Summary: I confess, I am a electronic consumer nut. After "getting by" on SVHS and component hookups for my electronic equipment, I bit the bullet and started looking for a receiver that had enough HDMI inputs, enough SVHS inputs, an input for my iPod and RCA-phono/USB-phono, LAN and computer. Previously, I had a Pioneer VSX-9500, then a Yamaha model with about 5 SVHS inputs, and a Denon AVR 4802R with 7 SVHS inputs.
Summary: This is a super receiver. I have owned two SONY receivers prior to this and have never been quite as pleased. This baby is very heavy so please make sure that what ever you put it on can manage the weight for a long time. I especially love the Streaming internet radio as well as the ability to play music from my iPod and PC. A close second love with this baby is the 7-channel 980W powerful Surround sound (140W x 7).
