not recommended

Xiaozhou W., Newegg
25 July 2015
  • Summary: Poor reliability, not recommended to anyone.
  • Pros: When it works, it's great.
  • Cons: Right after one year very light usage, probably turned on/off twice per week, it's broken. Everything from HDMI 1 channel is pink, and other hdmi channels are just black. Bypassed it everything works fine so clearly the receiver is no longer working.

) So if you have heavy gauge wiring like me, then expect similar difficulties

PVD, Amazon
27 January 2015
  • Summary: Decent system. I'm admittedly using it for simple stuff (just so we can utilize a 5 speaker surround system for the TV, which was already set up in the house we bought.) We don't listen to music with it, and aren't music "aficionados!

Easily Worth The Price

Yogi, Amazon
2 January 2015
  • Summary: For the price this is an excellent stereo receiver. I wanted a unit to set up in my basement that I could also attach to my TV. I have Polk Audio speakers and the sound quality is excellent. It was easy to set up and use. It does have all the important basic features you might need.

I am an amplifier and my name is Soundy....

Marty, Amazon
27 December 2014
  • Summary: I bought this not because my old one broke but because my good old buddy didn't have fancy HDMI ports for the newest version of the Xbox 360. I normally choose Sony but like Yamaha equipment as well.

For the price it seems to have great performance and sound output quality

Spaced Out, Amazon
9 December 2014
  • Summary: For the price it seems to have great performance and sound output quality. I have a pair of old Sony speakers and a new pair of Pioneer floor standing speakers plugged into it along with a Pioneer subwoofer and it bangs out serious vibrations.

Excellent Value

KC Jayhawk, Amazon
8 December 2014
  • Summary: As someone who has played with audio equipment for over 50 years, I'm simply amazed at the receiver performance that can now be purchased for less than $200.00. I've been using this Yamaha receiver in my home theater for about a month and it has exceeded all of my expectations.

Great Sound Quality and Fratures

C. G. Small, Amazon
26 November 2014
  • Summary: Made this purchase because I have owned the HTR5540 for little under 10 years and it is still golfing strong. Unfortunately, the remote was misplaced during a house move and I cannot get my hands on a replacement.

Easy initial setup. Very intuitive. Great sound!

Eric, Amazon
16 July 2014
  • Summary: This is my preliminary review since I just installed this new receiver and I have printed the manual (it comes on CD) but have not read it yet. The enclosed setup instructions are basically "attach some speakers and turn it on".

Impressive sound and performance for a value priced receiver!

Richard R., Newegg
30 June 2014
  • Summary: I'd highly recommend this receiver!! For my modest priced 5.1 setup I don't think a pricier model (got it on sale under $200) would have given me any noticeable benefit. I've got most of my devices hooked up with HDMI except for broadcast TV which I have connected with optical seeing as my slightly...
  • Pros: Sound quality and volume output is great for my 5.1 system. I can easily blast the sound louder than I'd want to without deafening myself and it still sounds clear. It has a plethora of different optimization settings which seem helpful. There's even a setting which helps to improve the sound qua...
  • Cons: The optical volume seems a bit quiet from some devices. May just be a limitation of older optical technology. Switched those devices over to HDMI instead which worked flawlessly.
