) So if you have heavy gauge wiring like me, then expect similar difficulties

Summary: Decent system. I'm admittedly using it for simple stuff (just so we can utilize a 5 speaker surround system for the TV, which was already set up in the house we bought.) We don't listen to music with it, and aren't music "aficionados!" The hole for the wires in the back are small, making the initial setup very difficult (I actually had to remove some strands of wire in order to fit the things into these tiny openings.
Summary: For the price this is an excellent stereo receiver. I wanted a unit to set up in my basement that I could also attach to my TV. I have Polk Audio speakers and the sound quality is excellent. It was easy to set up and use. It does have all the important basic features you might need. If you are looking for an audiophile high quality system with advanced features you will have to look at more expensive models. In this price range this is an excellent choice.
Summary: I bought this not because my old one broke but because my good old buddy didn't have fancy HDMI ports for the newest version of the Xbox 360. I normally choose Sony but like Yamaha equipment as well. This was a great buy because it gets me what I need for 5.1 surround and actually sounds nicer then old faithful. The microphone set up is very easy and will diagnose your current set up. Guess who had 2 wires reversed in his previous set up!
No HDMI Pass Thru or Switched Power for Sub-Woofer

Summary: Great AMP. Pros: Quick setup and Great sound quality. Many adjustments for speaker and room size. Mic for quick room setup but can be tweaked as needed. Cons: No switched power outlet for sub-woofer and no HDMI pass thru. The old (10+ Yrs) SONY AMP I was replacing even had a switched power outlet, but you have to turn sub on manually every time you want to use it. Also, if you use the HDMI Ports for all your video sources, the AMP has to be ON.
For the price it seems to have great performance and sound output quality

Summary: For the price it seems to have great performance and sound output quality. I have a pair of old Sony speakers and a new pair of Pioneer floor standing speakers plugged into it along with a Pioneer subwoofer and it bangs out serious vibrations. I have not actually pushed it past 0 db for any amount of time, usually hang around -5 and it is incredibly loud at that level.
Summary: As someone who has played with audio equipment for over 50 years, I'm simply amazed at the receiver performance that can now be purchased for less than $200.00. I've been using this Yamaha receiver in my home theater for about a month and it has exceeded all of my expectations. It replaced a JVC receiver that I have been flogging, without complaint, for several years but which lacked HDMI inputs.
Summary: Made this purchase because I have owned the HTR5540 for little under 10 years and it is still golfing strong. Unfortunately, the remote was misplaced during a house move and I cannot get my hands on a replacement. It will now retire to a bedroom with, hopefully, a pair of Pioneer Bookshelves I have my eyes on. I am going to be brief and leave the detailed comments to the audiophiles, although I am aspiring to be one.
Summary: All I can say is WOW! I bought this to replace an old Sony unit I've had for over 10 years. I never knew those old speakers could sound so good! I plan to replace the speakers down the road, but I am very happy with the result I got from this receiver! Everything plugged in, and worked perfectly! It is listed as a "Refurbished" unit, but appears to be brand new, without scratches or defects of any kind!!
Summary: Sounds great. I'm not real picky when it comes to sound, but from what I can tell, it's excellent. I love the 4 HDMI connectors on the back - works great. Easy to use, simple to connect, this replaced my 15 year old Yamaha unit so hopefully it lasts just as long.
Summary: Did a lot of research, ended with this for low cost and voice boost. Replaced Pio 915 with no HDMI. This amp works beautifully, and to my ears the HT sound is NOTICEABLY better than my Pio. Seems like the distribution between speakers is much better, and absolutely the center channel voice is 5 times more understandable - no matter what setting I made my old Pio the center channel was low or muddy.
