I did not like the yamaha, complicated setup, not user friendly
27 November 2013
Summary: not user friendly, did not like the remote or setup, if your a geek maybe, did not sound good, I returned it and will buy an onkyo. the volume numbers up and down, I think its in decibals I forget, but as your turn the volume up the numbers go down, it seems kind of weird even though I understand...
Summary: Not only was it extremely difficult to troubleshoot, it took forever to do it. It wasn't until I put in another older receiver in place of this NEW Yamaha that we finally determined it was the Yamaha Receiver that wasn't putting out the sound. Not an easy system to configure speakers either.
Summary: The HDMI video routing stopped working after the first few months. It was out of the 90 warranty, so I had to bring it in for repair. Repair was covered by YAMAHA but i still had to drive to the location to drop off and pick up item. They fixed, but the same issue occured 2 months later!
Summary: Newegg refused to allow a return because the invoice date was 33 days prior. It took them a week out of the 30 days to get it to me, but they flat out refused. Extremely rigid and bureaucratic customer service.
Pros: If it worked the way it was supposed to, it would have been fine.
Cons: HDMI swtiching didn't work. The video signal switched, but not the audio. At least not all the time.
Defective and yamaha refused to honour their warranty

Summary: I followed the warranty instructions exactly. Yamaha refused to honour their warranty. So, despite me taking the time, effort and money to return their defective product, I now know that their warranty won't cover the product for any reason. Also, there was no shipping damage.
Pros: The FM radio worked.
Cons: Defective HDMI inputs were causing visual distortion and were not decoding sound. Yamaha refused to honor their warranty.
Summary: After using this unit for five weeks the HDMI inputs stopped producing sound. We couldn't return the unit to Amazon because we were beyond the 30-day return window so we logged onto the Yamaha web site to find the closest authorized repair store.
