Blew out after 2 years!

  • Summary: Not impressed by the QC on this product. I bought it because I have had great luck with Yamaha products in the past, but this one did not tow the mark. The unit blew out without tripping the built in circuit breaker, so I could not do anything but watch it go. Sad to think that a great company like Yamaha has dropped their standards.

DOA

JakeH, Amazon
31 December 2012
  • Summary: Unfortunately I hooked everything up in my tight/cramp stereo cabinet to find out it was DOA. Really wished I would have plugged it in as soon as I unpacked it. Fortunately the seller took care of things quickly.

VERY DISAPPOINTED

Media Enterprises, Inc., Amazon
7 July 2012
  • Summary: One of the main reasons I bought this unit was the subwoofer out. It turns out the unit has less control over the subwoofer than my other Yamaha and Sony amplifiers with two sets of speaker outputs and controls. (Much less bass as a result.) And by the way, this does not have an output for a second set of speakers--talk about a step backward. They assume you're only using 5.1, but if you want to drive two sets of stereo speakers--you're out of luck.

Does not work with TIVO HD

Ryan M Hardison, Amazon
13 March 2011
  • Summary: Nice overall, except it doesn't work with TivoHD. When switching channels or powering up, the unit creates a loud, high pitched squealing sound for about 1 second. It's impossible to ignore. It happens on both the HDMI input and running in Optical. The only way to get it to stop is to turn off Dolby Digital on the Tivo, but that is a bad option as that turns off 5.1 surround and makes everything be just plain stereo. It's a nice unit, just not for TIVO owner's.
