Summary: It seems like a nice unit. I am still learning how to use it. I have a passive sub. witch seems to be making the sound from DVD playback kind of muted and soft, or its my dvr doing it. Other components sound very good.
Summary: Yamaha quality for a great price. Great sound with my setup with five bose speakers. The setup was a little difficult but worth the time. It has many more sound applications than I need but I will be experimenting as I get more use to its functions. I use it for movies and sports events and the sound puts you right in the middle of the action. This is my second Yamaha receiver and am very happy with both.
Very good audio receiver. Not so good video receiver

Summary: I purchased this receiver with a dual purpose: 1. to serve as an audio amplifier and 2. to serve as a video switch so one can select a video source together with an audio source with only one click. While I am very happy with the audio amplifier part, I am not completely happy with the video switch part. Here is why... Note that the manual is not very clear but the tech support is knowledgeable and responsive.
Power at the right price for the budget-minded consumer

Summary: I'm not an audiophile, but enjoy watching movies with my family, listening to all kinds of music and playing both Xbox and Wii. I purchased the Yamaha RX-V365BL 500 Watt 5-Channel Home Theater Receiver to upgrade my 8 year old Sony 'theater in a box' set-up, after reading several reviews on it. I did note that the HDMI inputs on the receiver do not carry audio - only video.
Summary: I like the Night setting that compresses the sound for low listening levels at night so the sound doesn't get too loud. Also described as it narrows the dynamic range of the soundtracks and makes dialog easier to hear at lower volumes. I was disappointed the HDMI cables do not support sound! I have to make a last minute trip to the local store to by a Optical Digital audio cable for the DVR and a Coaxial Digital audio cable for the Blu Ray player.
Summary: Nice, but being very new to Home Theater, I wanted HDMI all the way, but this has cheap wiring clasps in the back that you have to noodle your exposed wiring in to each clasp. This sucks, Reminds me of a very cheap product by an unknown brand from ten years ago. Once you get thru that, it is a very nice product and for the price, you cant go wrong. But I would advise myself and others, pay the extra few and get something awesome.
Summary: On choosing this model A/V receiver, I understood that at this price, the HDMI is for video only. The instruction manual can be difficult to follow for first time Home Theater installers, but don't let these minor issues keep you from checking out this Yamaha. With Comc*** HD cable box, the Receiver HDMI ports are not used. I get very good 5.1 Dolby Surround sound from HD channels by connecting an optical digital audio cable from the cable box to the receiver.
