Great features in a short chassis and AirPlay works like it should

Troy, Amazon
1 June 2014
  • Summary: We purchased Yamaha RX-S600 because it had all the features we needed and it was one of the few short enough to fit in our TV stand, we have been using it for 2 days at this point. So far I am very impressed with the sound and feature set for such a small receiver. Our usage is primarily AirPlay (which works much better on this device than others I have tried in the past and connects within a few seconds), we use this in conjunction with other AirPlay and hard wired...

  • Summary: This receiver is replacing an entry level Onkyo AVR in my main room. The room leaves a bit to be desired lighting and acoustics wise, so I have another room for serious home theater. But I find I can upgrade the lower end equipment more regularly, so my main room has much more modern tech which allows me to figure out when new tech has matured enough to upgrade the home theater room.

Excellent Option With Advanced Capabilities

Jack Turner, Amazon
13 May 2014
  • Summary: I have only owned a couple of AV receivers, but that is generally because I think long and hard about the devices I bring into my home. When I thought it might be time for an upgrade, I was pliantly surprised by the Yamaha RX-S600. The primary thing you will notice about this receiver is that it is thin; it’s not especially light, but it is easy to maneuver into the tight space of the average av cabinet.

Quality product

  • Summary: Fits my tight space perfectly. Airplay works and I actually use it quite a bit. Took a chance on 1 that was returned to warehouse to save $$ and I can't find anything wrong with it. It just works. Only negative I have is the power, amp is pretty weak, having to bi-amp my front l and r to make it sound good. Overall happy with purchase.

Slim and sleek, a little light on connectivity options

ut158, Amazon
29 April 2014
  • Summary: This receiver replaced my Pioneer VSX-D811s in my downstairs TV room (it was in the main theater room until replaced by an Onkyo). As I recall, the Pioneer was about $600 when I bought it. I have loved it since day 1 and was sad that I had to replace it simply because HDMI hadn't been invented yet when it was made.

Great feature set in the perfect sized package

Troy, Crutchfield
29 April 2014
  • Summary: I have owned this receiver and had it fully integrated into my system for a few days now. So far I am very impressed with the sound and feature set for such a small receiver. Our usage is primarily AirPlay (which works much better on this device than others I have tried in the past and connects within a few seconds), we use this in conjunction with other AirPlay and hard wired devices to provide the same music throughout the house.
  • Pros: Short so it easily fits into a TV stand or stereo rack 5 HDMI inputs (1 of which is MHL capable, for smart devices) and 1 ARC (audio return channel for TV audio to come in on with capable TVs) output 1 component audio output AirPlay, Pandora, streaming file access from your computer, USB file playback, iPod playback, and other internet radio stations During all the network playback options the song name and artist are displayed on the front panel, OSD, and the network...
  • Cons: The MHL capable HDMI port is on the rear rather than the front panel for easy access The component audio out port will not output AirPlay audio

Great, Not Awe Inspiring - But They Did Put Everything In A Nice Compact Package

Carter H "1amazonreviewer@gmail . com", Amazon

  • Summary: Setting up the amp is very easy. Connect the included microphone to the mic input on the front panel and automatic set-up begins. After pressing `yes' a couple of times, you'll get about 30 seconds of test tones, which the amp uses to calculate the sizes, distance and volume of your speakers. And you're done. If you have animals you may want to put them in another room, or not depending on the possible entertainment value. The sounds kind of freak them out.

Great sound system and lot of useful features. I like!

  • Summary: I used NAD for many years and initially looked for newer NAD models, I found Yamaha RX-S600 as better cost effective plus the features that have vs. NAD type of receivers to make the connectivity of many devices very convenient.
