Great value for price

Desert Runner, Yamaha
14 September 2014
  • Summary: Use mostly for home theater. This replaced my old Yamaha Rx-V3300 which was a higher end system. The old Yamaha had better controls and sound but lacked HDMI which is a must in todays AV market. I kept the V3300 hooked up for when I wanted better audio control for music only. Noticeable difference but I doubt anyone other than a total audiophile would pick it up. Overall the Rx-A1030 is great value for the cost.
  • Pros: Easy To Set Up, Good Power Output, Great Sound Quality
  • Cons: Limited Functions, Poor Reception / Weak Antenna

Impressive Upgrade

Chris M., Yamaha
18 June 2014
  • Summary: First time Yamaha owner. Previous receiver was less than 2 years old. 5.1 set up with Zone 2. Uses include watching TV, Blu-rays, music CDs, and steaming movies and music . The only disappointment is Spotify Connect. In order to listen to Spotify (Premium subscription) via Zone 2 (patio speakers), the Zone 2 input needs to be set to AirPlay. AirPlay is available in Zone2 only when AirPlay playback is ongoing in the main zone.
  • Pros: Accurate Controls, Aesthetic Design, Easy To Set Up, Great Sound Quality, Hd Radio Tuner, Phono input
  • Cons: Spotify Connect

Upgrade From Previous Receiver

Chris M., Yamaha
17 June 2014
  • Summary: First time Yamaha owner. Upgrading from a receiver less than 2 years old. 5.1 set up with Zone 2. Uses are the usual watching TV, Blu-rays, music CDs, and steaming movies and music . The only negative that I have is I utterly dislike Spotify Connect. In order to listen to Spotify (Premium subscription) via Zone 2 (patio speakers), the Zone 2 input needs to be set to Air Play. In order for that to happen the Main Zone input is automatically set to Air Play.
  • Pros: Accurate Controls, Aesthetically Pleasing, Easy To Set Up, Great Sound Quality, Hd Radio Tuner, Phono input
  • Cons: Spotify Connect

Manual needs improvement

RedHead, Yamaha
14 June 2014
  • Summary: I had to purchase a Grundig Eton NGAN200 Antenna to get half decent AM reception as the supplied AM antenna barely picked up any stations. Before purchasing the NGAN200 I tried the antenna from my old Technics receiver which did work better than the one supplied by Yamaha. Also directions in the manual are confusing and lack completeness. On the positive side the unit is very faxable and can accommodate a large variety of devices including legacy produces.
  • Pros: Flexability, Flexibility, Fm Radio Reception, Great Sound Quality
  • Cons: Am Reception Weak, Difficult To Set Up, Poor Am Antenna Supplied, Poor Reception / Weak Antenna

Upgraded from RXA800

That Guy, Yamaha
1 May 2014
  • Summary: I bought the display model for $800 and got the free WIFI adapter. Also, the salemen couldn't find the remote so they gave me a RX-A2030 and it rocks! These units now days are so robust with options that unless you dedicate a day or two its hard to get the setup done. Plus, my man cave isn't big enough to get the full use of this unit. For me, great deal and works awesome.
  • Pros: Energy Efficient, Good Power Output, Good Remote Control, Great Sound Quality

Best Sound Quality for MP3 Files

rickk726, Yamaha
11 March 2014
  • Summary: Watching movies and listening to music over different sources (IPOD, Sirius, Pandora, web, etc.)I have had other systems (Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood & Bose) I love the sound I get with the Yamaha. I tested it in store and you know they use the best equipment to demo it, but the quality was there when I took it home and hooked it up to my equipment. Pure Quality.
  • Pros: Easy To Set Up, Good Power Output, Great Sound Quality
  • Cons: Confusing / Bad Remote Control

Solid Workhorse

Neophyte Audiophile, Yamaha
17 February 2014
  • Summary: I bought the Yamaha RX-A1030 to replace my old Panasonic SC-HT800V Home Theater System. The A1030 was a big step up from my old system and after a month of use I'm generally very happy with it. I paired it with a Bose Acoustimass 10 since I live in a small apartment and don't need big speakers. My impressions so far are that it is a solid all-around feature-rich system. I have never been blown away by any of the features of the A1030, but I'm always satisfied.
  • Pros: Accurate Controls, Airplay Support, Easy To Set Up, Hd Radio Tuner, Ipad App, Ipod Support, Phono input

Great A/V reciever, sans speaker setup.

S. Rawlings-Blake, Yamaha
19 November 2013
  • Summary: Purchased receiver as a replacement for an old legacy-based one that does not have HDMI connections (for a TV). Once connected, (including speakers), it sounds great not only for watching DVD/Blu Ray movies, but watching the few decent programs on TV. One day, I'll have to purchase better speakers for enhanced sound--they're OK for now. I would like to give this receiver a 4.5 rating,--I think its better than the "4" I listed.
