Yamaha HTR 5540 5.1 channel receiver

rassledassle43015, Ebay
25 March 2010
  • Summary: I have only used it a couple of days and I think it is a great product. It does what it is supposed to do and does it well. I would like to be able to adjust the voulme manually between the rear and front and center speakers but I don't know of any unit that allows this. By most standards it is an old unit but it is doing what I need done at my stage in life. I am using it to beef up the sound on the tv for us old retired half deaf people.

Great Receiver

N. Colby, Amazon
3 July 2009
  • Summary: Crisp, clear, accurate sound. The only real weakness I think this thing has, is only one optical input. Yamaha knows what they are doing. I would buy another without even thinking about it.

Yamaha takes the cake

Saveadimetospendabuck, Amazon
2 July 2009
  • Summary: I have been useing this reciver for about 2 weeks now and i am plesantly suprized in its quality and ablity to push sound. I am an audio buff, everything has to be perfect. I run 2 sony mains both containing 2 10"subwoofers, a 4"main, and a tweet... they are 8ohm and run at 200watt max. The Yamaha is prefect for them! I have a total of 5 10"subs now and when i run movies like Twister I get such pounding bass that my father thinks lightning has struck the house!

Quality Sound

N. Colby, Amazon
15 April 2009
  • Summary: Replaced my 100 Watt Kenwood Surround receiver with the Yamaha HTR-5540 receiver, and what a difference. The quality of the sound is incredible. This unit offers a optical input from my DVD player which really boosts power and quality. This unit has as much power as my 100 Watt Kenwood. I consider this an UPGRADE from the Kenwood. The sound options are numerous and the installation was a snap.

Great Bang for the buck

Kevin Warren, Amazon
1 April 2009
  • Summary: Bought this in 2002 for $300.00, really wanted a higher model but cash was tight at the time. This is my second Yamaha receiver, and I think it's safe to say I'm a Yamaha Lifer. I also have a Yamaha DVD player which is awesome, plays all digital formats except .MKV. Anyway at 75watts to 5 channels you can't beat the price. Sounds great, no heat issues either.

Still going strong 13 yrs later

CA, Amazon
25 March 2009
  • Summary: I purchased this surround sound as a college graduation gift to myself back in 2001...its 2014 and its still going strong!! Being a recent college grad at the time, I couldn't afford top of the line, but at the time, this was considered "middle ground" and I was very impressed with the quality then and still am today!! I use it for surround sound with the TV and also as a stereo and I must say even after 13 yrs its still sounds great!
