Summary: I used this unit to replace the changer / receiver / amp in a much older Sony bookshelf system. The CD changer had died, but the older Sony 3-Way speakers looked pretty good, so I thought I would try this. I cannot believe how much better everything sounds. The addition of a small sub-woofer would round out the bass a bit more, but the sound as is, is remarkably good.
Summary: Purchased this January 2014 to replace a 15+ year old Sony receiver that died over the Holidays. Kids are out of the house and through undergrad work and, with with the "raise" we received, we are doing some remodeling and I wanted to reduce the "footprint" of our stereo equipment. Decided the Yamaha receiver fit the bill. MUCH smaller than the Sony receiver AND we decided to dump the old Sony CD Changer as we seldom use it.
Summary: I purchased this in early January 2014 to replace a 20+ year old Sony receiver that quit working. I also wanted to reduce the footprint/size of the equipment so that it would fit on a bookshelf in our family room. I also got rid of a Sony CD changer that was about 15 years old. I am very pleased with this little receiver and single CD player. Have it connected to smaller Boston Acoustics bookshelf speakers and subwoofer.
Pros: Clear Sound, Compact, Easy To Set Up, Energy Efficient, Good Remote
Summary: My old, old receiver finally died. I needed a CD player and an audio outlet to use with my speakers. The Yamaha fit the bill perfectly and had the bonus of a remote control plus USB and i-Pod dock. It was easily installed and produces great quality sound. One other bonus is the small amount of space it takes up.
Summary: this is my 2nd Yamaha micro stereo, I also bought the prior version, 330. Awesomely powerful little stereo, drives speakers without distortion, one in kitchen, other in master bathroom, crank up volume to hear over shower water noise, works great. New one has AM, aux in, in addition to other inputs. very nice, clean iPod hookup.
Summary: I had an old component receiver that finally gave out. I thought maybe this would be a suitable replacement, but it wasn't. This unit is very small (no problem) but also very light. It did not adequately power my older (and old school) Pioneer speakers. The sound distorted a lot when trying to add decent volume. This is purely a cute bookshelf receiver.
Summary: Everything about this little receiver is just great except one thing, in order to receive FM stereo broadcast you must let this unit auto tune, there is no way it let you receive stereo broadcasts any other way, to be quite honest I do not like not being able to decide for myself if I want to manually tune to stereo broadcasts or switch to mono, if the reception is a little noisy, so what, it should be my decision to listen or not, and not some overpaid Yamaha engineer!
Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Set Up, Good FM reception, Great Speaker System, Intuitive Controls
Cons: Confusing Remote, Poor Am Reception, Poor Remote Button Placem
Excerpt: Bought this December 2011, and it died in the summer of 2013. Thus, it was outside it's 1 year warranty. The unit powers on, then clicks off. I have attempted all ways to reset the system, but none of them work. Other people have reported this problem. Clearly Yamaha created a lemon here. I expected more of Yamaha and will have to reconsider continuing to buy the brand. Pathetic engineering.
Summary: I'm so impressed with this little box, that I decided to write my first review in 5 years. A good way to test stereos is to turn the volume down low. The best systems have clean smooth control at low levels, and this unit is stellar. I can blast it loud and hear it throughout the house, or I can dial it way down so you can't hear it in the hallway with the door open. The whole time audio clarity is maintained. The radio reception is very strong and clear.
Summary: Remote is fully functional (tone, balance, station and input select) yet simple enough to use without manual. One minor problem: Power to the usb port is only available when usb input is selected. Thus, portable audio devices cannot be powered when used as input.
Pros: Clear Sound, Easy To Set Up, Energy Efficient, Good Remote, Good Sound, Intuitive Controls, Simple Remote With Balanc
