Poor quality for the money

  • Summary: I picked this stereo up from my local Costco. While a good value for the money, I'm not happy with the performance. I've experienced the same picture cutout issues and now have a dead surround sound speaker port (won't work at all).

  • Summary: CAVEAT - generous rating was based on HOW IT FUNCTIONED - WHEN IT FUNCTIONED...for 1 YEAR 7 MONTHS. I'm in the beginning stages of repair process (under warranty) - so far horribly customer service. Shouldn't the auto-power down function prevent this unit from blowing itself out and "breaking"?

Not reliable!

  • Summary: terrible system ... after a year it all breaks down and stops being reliable. Blue tooth no longer working and the tv signal no longer going through it properly either. Don't waste your money or buy a long warranty. Also SONY charges you for questions made to tech support after one year.

I am very disappointed in this unit

  • Summary: I am very disappointed in this unit. I purchased it new so that I would have blue tooth capability. I also purchased a Sony Headset mdrzx770bt with BT so that I can watch my Sony TV using the headset. I am hearing impaired and need the headset.

  • Summary: I recently bought an STR-DN840 from another vendor. I will never buy another Sony product again. I had to call Sony support to try to set up the receiver. The remote turned out to be defective. You need the remote to set up the receiver. Sony support was terrible.

  • Summary: I've had this receiver since September 2014 and it has worked like a charm. I keep it ventilated because of the heat that it produces and it hasn't given me a single issue. It was easy set up and it has many feature I have yet to try, even after 4 months.

Failure on 3 HDMI ports!

  • Summary: HDMI switching is not a strong point. When you can keep it up and running, it sounds and looks great. I could not switch from one HDMI to another without losing the signal. In some cases I could switch back to my tv and it worked. In other cases the switch over and back on HDMIs failed.

  • Summary: It is pretty much everything I wanted. I love its sleek look, bundle of features, quality sound output and the more-than-sufficient amount of outputs in general it has. The DN840 is a fantastic receiver, especially for the price.
