Summary: Great Product. Bought after reading CNET review. Intuitive. Easy. Had a 500 watt Pioneer prior. The extra watts must really make a difference. Noticeably better sound quality on same Polk Audio speakers. Very pleased.
Sony support was terrible. The agent couldn't understand what I was saying

Summary: I recently bought an STR-DN840 from another vendor. I will never buy another Sony product again. I had to call Sony support to try to set up the receiver. The remote turned out to be defective. You need the remote to set up the receiver. Sony support was terrible.
Summary: I have to admit I was not sure if I should buy this one. I found a lot of outstanding ratings online but on this website there was a lot of negative feedback as well. So I hoped for the best. My receiver does everything it is suppose to do.
Summary: With virtually all the features of the STR-DN 850 that has replaced this discontinued model and at more than $100 less, this purchase appears to be one of those exceptional deals that I appreciate from Costco.
Pros: easy online purchase. free shipping that took less than a week to receiv
Summary: Very low functioning piece. Can not truly perform most of what it says it can, especially with regard managing video inputs. . The interface is what is worst about this unit. It looks like MS Dos from the 1980s and is difficult to navigate and set up. Do not buy.
Summary: Receiver sounded good w/ my Bose Acoustimass 10 speakers. For the price, it had very good features (WiFi, HDMI inputs). However, the remote / user interface was very non-intuitive (I'm an engineer and work with computers / programs all day).
Pros: sound quality hdmi inputs hdmi bypass wifi
Cons: buzzing noise in standby generates a lot of heat in standby confusing user interface confusing remote
Summary: After spending 2 days configuring and setting up this receiver it worked for a few days and then just won't turn on. The power light is green but nothing is working. Tried to press every buttons on the unit and the remote but nothing happened. Won't even turn off.
Pros: cheap but maybe that's the tradeoff hdmi inputs
Cons: not reliable remote hard to use esp the alpha/numeric buttons to change volume you have to press button twice once to show it up on the screen and then another to change.
Summary: Overall I am extremely pleased with the unit. It came promptly and has performed better than expected. One draw back, we have Russound units to power the house with music and to date, I've not found a way to hook them up. There is no "out" port for this.
Summary: I have this reveiver for about a month now. The sound from it is great, but I am having intermittent picture issues from day 1. I have my blue ray player, Wii U, Chromecast going into its HDMI inputs and then I have output going to my TV via HDMI as well.
Summary: I've had this receiver since September 2014 and it has worked like a charm. I keep it ventilated because of the heat that it produces and it hasn't given me a single issue. It was easy set up and it has many feature I have yet to try, even after 4 months.
