Summary: After spending 2 days configuring and setting up this receiver it worked for a few days and then just won't turn on. The power light is green but nothing is working. Tried to press every buttons on the unit and the remote but nothing happened. Won't even turn off. Unplugged for a day and still the same. This is the second Sony product that didn't work. I bought a 70" LCD tv last year and the picture cuts off every once a while. Won't be buying another Sony product again.
Pros: cheap but maybe that's the tradeoff hdmi inputs
Cons: not reliable remote hard to use esp the alpha/numeric buttons to change volume you have to press button twice once to show it up on the screen and then another to change.
Summary: Overall I am extremely pleased with the unit. It came promptly and has performed better than expected. One draw back, we have Russound units to power the house with music and to date, I've not found a way to hook them up. There is no "out" port for this.
Summary: I have this reveiver for about a month now. The sound from it is great, but I am having intermittent picture issues from day 1. I have my blue ray player, Wii U, Chromecast going into its HDMI inputs and then I have output going to my TV via HDMI as well. When switching between inputs, I do not get picture sometimes although the sound comes out. When I reset the reciever, it works fine. Its so frustrating to do it all the time.
Summary: I bought this receiver from the warehouse to replace a 6-year old Onkyo receiver that cost more than $700.00. It wasn't that the Onkyo was bad, but this Sony was soooo much better. Clear sound accompanied by great speech clarity and surround sound make this receiver a real winner - particularly at this price. The current model, the 850, for $100.00 more is nothing by an update. Don't waste your money.
Summary: Best receiver on the market for the price. Has wireless, Bluetooth, and Airplay capabilities which normally come with much higher priced units. Easy to set up. Hardest part was using the remote to key in the WEP code for the wireless. You need to hold down the shift button. Streaming capability from either home network or internet is top notch and easy to use. The sound field choices are varied and work well with most any surround speaker system.
Pros: wireless bluetooth airplay
Cons: remote - still recommend an all-in-one remote
Summary: It is pretty much everything I wanted. I love its sleek look, bundle of features, quality sound output and the more-than-sufficient amount of outputs in general it has. The DN840 is a fantastic receiver, especially for the price. The setup is easy and the automatic speaker calibration is about as good as any I have done on other receivers, probably better. But again, its the sound and features that put this Receiver above and beyond those in its price range.
Summary: The first receiver that I purchased through Amazon was defective. It had screeching noises and would cut out the the picture from time to time. I returned that one with the thought of not buying the unit again. I was tempted by a cut price at a local big box store and decided to give it another shot. This unit worked well and is now installed in my gameroom with no problem whatsoever.
Summary: Love it!!! I have it setup for 7.1 surround with a Bic America 12 inch sub and it is just awesome the sound delivery!! Need to upgrade the other speakers (samsungs from a home entertainment pack) but even then the sony amp does a good job! My only con is the power ON through HDMI it works only when I start Air Play from my iphone ( it turns the sony and my Tv) but if I just turn on the amp my the control the tv never hoes on at the same time.
