Summary: Excellent AV Receiver, specially for what I paid. Less than $300! PROS: Plenty of inputs, plenty of power, can drive seven speakers simultaneously, ease of use, compatibility with other Sony devices, integrated ethernet router, Sony reliability, and good looks. CONS: Not Wi-Fi capable. My set up consists of a Samsung LCD TV, Sony BD player, Motorola HD DVR, Panasonic DVD Recorder, Infinity Home Theater satellites and subwoofer, and Polk Audio outdoor speakers.
Summary: I thought this would be a great receiver since it was a one of a kind. How often do you have a receiver with a network hub built in? Well, that was the driving factor since most of my media is digital as well as providing an interface for my game console, smart TV, and PC. The first thing I noticed is that the receiver get extremely hot when it is on or off due to a feature that allows you to use the switch all the time.
Summary: I've had some strangeness with regard to the sound on occasion going out. It only last 1-2 seconds and comes right back on. I have a feeling it is due to the fact that all my home entertainment equipment is plugged into a 6 prong surge protector and not some kind of expensive UPS. It's not something I can reproduce and there seems to be no rhyme or reason why it does what it does but it doesn't do it enough that I am going to go an spend $150 on a UPS, yet...
Summary: This receiver is a great addition to my 55" Sony HX800 and by Sony BD player. The bravia sync functions great and they "talk" well with one another. Easy to setup up and it has plenty of amplification for my needs. I have a Mirage Nanosat Prestige 5.1 speaker system and it is incredibly clear and crisp. The 4 port switch on the back is very useful since many devices are internet capable...I prefer a wired connection to a wi-fi connection.
Summary: I bought this to upgrade my current Sony 5.1 home theater reciever I've had for the past 10 years, I choose it because Sony has lasted for years on all products I've bought with no issues. The features I like best are the 4 HDMI inputs with pass through feature, meaning I don't have to have the reciever on to watch tv, a movie or play a game. The up convert through HDMI is a great feature when playing older game systems or watching a video on a VCR.
Summary: I'm puzzled over some of the earlier negative reviews. My receiver works like a charm, and the firmware upgrade installed without a hitch. I like the multiple HDMI functions, and the ethernet connections for smart components are great, too. Easy to set up, although I recommend using banana plugs instead of bare wires when hooking up your speakers. The included microphone for setting up the sound fields worked well, too, and made adjusting the surround speakers a breeze.
Summary: I bought this unit for several reasons, 1 I wanted the HDMI upconvert, everything connects to this unit and I have 1 HDMI going to my tv. I don't need to switch inputs on the tv. Secondly, it has a built in ethernet switch which isn't that big of a deal but it is one less thing that I needed in my cabinet. Third it has a network connection. I can connect to various media pc's and listen to music or watch videos off them using DLNA.
Summary: I added this unit to my new Sony 3D TV and now our theater is totally Rocking!! The 7.1 surround sound makes the smallest sounds come alive and Sony matches up its pieces like a good marriage.
