Summary: Purchased this receiver a Month ago and it is a great buy. Sound quality for movies are excellent. Interface is user friendly and is similar to the ps3. Biggest weakness with this receiver is a completely independent zone 2 system. Whatever zone 1 is playing also outputs to zone 2. However in this price range there are no other receivers that give you all the features of the 1040.
Pros: The standout feature is definitely the networking aspect - BlueTooth, AirPlay, and WiFi makes this thing so convenient to use with ALL of my devices that it is simply heaven. The 8 HDMI inputs, MHL, and USB are just frosting on the top of the cake.
Cons: Only one issue so far and that is the sometimes jarring noise it makes when starting up - sounds as if it is trying to suck up all the electricity in the house. Well, that is a bit of an overstatement, but it is surprising.
Summary: Not that savy about receivers in the technical terms but I knew what I was looking for in a receiver and this one delivers. The sound is amazing even when you lower the volume you don't lose the quality. Every ping, ting and crash comes in perfectly clear. And the bonus is airplay, very easy to use. Love this receiver, my birthday present to me.
Summary: Bought this last night at Best Buy. First time setting up a receiver. Replaced a 2009 Yamaha RX-V663 because...Brace yourselves...it didn't have a USB port. & My silly $100 Yamaha iPhone adapter only works with the old style iPhone cable. Still can't believe Yamaha charged $100 for that f'ing thing. Out of the box, placed it beneath the Yamaha & started transposing speaker wire & cables. Turned it on and my PS3 worked find, without any setup at all.
A big improvement over my 2011 Sony Surround Receiver

Summary: More power to get a good sound even at low levels, a very improved G.U.I. that makes setting it up and selecting source much easier, 8 HDMI inputs and 2 HDMI outputs should make me happy for many years. It also has a couple of analog inputs and it is ready for 4K when I need it. It sounds great as well! Higly recommended!
Does almost everything we ask it to do - the iPhone remote could be better

Summary: Effortless setup. Working great with iTunes/airplay/appletv. Wireless rarely drops out. Just wish someone had tested the iPhone/iPad remotes for a couple minutes. Every time you open it you have to click and click just to get to the remote. They have cable-centric eye candy garbage you have to get past just to turn the sound down. Maybe someone will be given permission to eliminate this for all us buyers who don't buy cable tv anymore.
Summary: I've had the receiver for a while now and figured that since I haven't found anything I don't like about it....I should give it 5 stars. Some of the features I like the most: 1) I like that I can watch cable with the stereo off (pass-through) 2) I like that I can use my iPhone as a remote 3) Love the bluetooth and AirPlay 4) Sounds great There are many other things, but these are the most notable for my use. My previous receiver was also a Sony (ES Line).
Summary: I love this amp. I had a Marantz slimline 1601 thingamajiggma .....which gave me nothing but frustration. Bought this thing and its a joy to setup and it simply works - Perfectly. In terms of value for money I'll be bold and say you can spend $1200 on an amp and the only way you'd notice a difference is with an oscilloscope.
