sounds good, but the device is still very warm even ...

Summary: Works well, sounds good, but the device is still very warm even when completely off. There are some auto-on features that keeps the device ready-to-go and swallows juice while it waits, so I turned off every feature so that the device could finally go to sleep and to stop producing heat (eating power 24/7), but even after Turing off every feature it's still quite warm.
Summary: I was concerned over the negative reviews when I purchased this unit. It’s been over a month, and all is OK at this point. I was able to use the auto config to get the 5.1 setup in 10 min. My unit sits between DirecTV and the 65” monitor (with bad audio), it now has a great audio with everything I watch. So far, I have to use the SONY remote to power up this unit, and use the DirecTV remote to do everything else. I’m sure it’s about selecting the correct code.
Summary: Very easy operation and outstanding sound quality. Most of our audio now streams via Bluetooth from iPhones and this has been well beyond expectations. Sound quality is well-balanced. I'm really happy we bought it!
Good receiver but No internet music streaming service!

Summary: I bought this unit on june 2014, mainly for its Internet radio capabilites. I was very happy and worked perfect for 2 months. On September 2014 Sony stopped providing Internet music streaming. The receiver works fine and has very good audio. Sadly, I will return it because I need Internet radio services.
Great receiver. If looking for a sub $500.00 receiver, definitely check tho

Summary: Great receiver. I had read about this receiver on c/net.com. While c/net listed the DN840 as the better value, when I saw that the reduced price put the DN1040 on par with the DN840, I opted for the former. The design of the unit is clean and not overly cluttered as some receivers. My receiver was replacing my old Yamaha. I will admit that its taking me awhile to get used to the minimal display on the DN1040.
Summary: Really wanted to like this being a big fan of Sony, all my other stuff is Sony, over the years I have owned 10 to 12 Sony receivers, never issues only wanted to upgrade for more hdmi ports, after many hours over several day of trying to get all hdmi to work, I had to give upland return Hdmi problems, after many hours over several days could never get all hdmi to work. Over the years I have owned a dozen of so Sony receivers never had problems before.
Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS RECEIVER. After reading the bad reviews where people had issues with defective units, I almost did not order this model, but then I did because I figured that the one I ordered would be fine... Well, it wasn't. It had the same issues other people experienced(flashing screen, digital static, couldn't get the signal loaded fast enough to not try over and over unsuccessfully), Sony was inept and unable to help with anything and offered me a repair on a brand...
Summary: Had this receiver up and running for 4 days now and no hdmi problems what so ever. It seems either you get one with hdmi problems or not. Great sound quality on Movies and music. Moved to the sony from a yamaha rx v773 that didn't sound that great with music, to my ears anyway. The sony sounds much more balanced and no shrill highs like the yamaha. Only problem so far is lip sync issues with comcast cable. Tried the auto and manual adjust.
Summary: UPDATE: After the newest software update my DN1040 is working -for the most part- quite well. Some random notes: The good news is that I am hearing music differently with this receiver. Nuances that I've never noticed before. And when the HDMI works it works well. Airplay is awesome. Using the DN1040 to remote my iPod has some issues. Auto-on is a very nice feature, I turn my Directv on and the receiver comes to life.
